I know that most of these 04. 5's with the 600 dont have many miles yet and your not getting your potential mileage yet, but what sort of numbers have you been getting so far? can you also list what type of truck ie(2500, 3500, 4x4, 2x4, 6spd, 48re) and type of driving. thanks.

My truck started out under 15 mpg new. It's up to 19. 2 average (hand calculated) if I stay under 2000 RPM's with no load. Higher speeds or towing a decent load drops my MPG dramatically into the high to mid 14 MPG range.

6 sp, 4X4, Single Rear Wheel, 3500, 4:10 gears in the back, completely stock 22,000 miles on the truck

My best had been 17. 64. See image below for complete stats.

See sig for truck details. I am a bit disappointed with the milage running empty, but towing milage is about the same as my 01. 5. It's still too early to tell how it will turn out, but I'm happy with it.

Just put 3000 miles on new 04. 5... ...

Have not done hand calculations, but computer says 8 mpg w/ trailer, and 12. 4 w/o.

Hope it comes up a little bit as she breaks in.

I traded my '01 HO 6-speed for '04 HO automatic Dec. 1 to beat the EGR problems. Had a few problems, so traded for '04. 5 600 automatic on 2-19. Made 532 miles on the week-end two-lane 55 MPH up to freeway 80MPH -no load. Used 34. 1 gallons.

Actual 15. 6 MPG--Computer shows 14. 2 MPG. Felt better after hand calculating it.

Mine is getting 13. 1 with 1500 miles

I traded off an 01 just like it that was getting 18 and it would out run the new one. I am trying to figure out where the fuel is going!

I was going to buy one, I am backing out because of mileage reports. There are still some 04's left. Do they get better mileage than the 04. 5's?? My old 97 gets between 18 and 22 mpg.

Only have one tank through it so far. It was almost all the trip home from the dealer. 420 miles on I-90 from Idaho to Western Washington, Includes a hill or two climbing over the Cascades, average speed of 75 mph, 27 gallons, 15. 3 mpg.

i can't figure out there is so many fuel mileage discrepencies on these diesel's. my 03 consistently has gotten 19+ since new, and that was hand figured. with 22K it is now up to around 21 +- 5 tenths. my 95 was around 19mpg also.

04 MPG

I put 2500 miles on a 2004 2500 4x4 QC 6spd before returning it. First tank I got 19 mpg. The best I saw was 21 mpg running 75 mph from SLO to Vegas. It averaged right at 20 mpg over the first 5 fillups. I was pretty impressed that it was so high to begin with. The truck had 38 miles on it when I test drove it, the overhead computer showed 17 mpg.

Anyone on the TDR pick it up? I returned it to Chapman Dodge, Las Vegas back in November. Had around 2600 miles on it.

As a side note, this one was not as tall as most of the 4x4's around. Did it come with shorter springs/blocks? It was at least a couple inches shorter than my 02. More aerodynamic for better MPG? Holding onto my 02 and we're looking for an older one now, WANTED ad in classifieds.

I think it's improtant to keep in mind that part of the low milage reports for the 04. 5's could be a combination of:

- Not broken in

- Winter blend fuel

- Cold weather driving

I predict that in 6 months the 04. 5's will have the same milage as the 03-04's.

Klenger is right. Also on that 9. 0 mpg truck, have you had the speedo calibrated for those bigger tires? They will make the mileage come out lots lower, and the fuel seem to go much faster... ... .
