Just turned 1300 miles. 2500 4X4 48RE with 3:73s. Running BFG 315s and had speedo re-calibrated. Driving 75-85, got 16mpg hand calculated. It will pick up 1 or 2 more mpg as it loosens up. Considering the weight of the truck, performance, and speed I'm driving, I'm very happy. After break in, I may try to drive at 65 on a trip and see what it can really do.

04. 5, 48RE, QC, 3500 SRW, Short Bed, about 900 miles on it and consistantly about 13 mpg so far. Sure hope it improves with age. '95 5 speed, 3. 54 got 17 to 19 after turning up waste gate to 300 HP. Will see what new truck gets after more breakin. Definately a great truck to drive.

Mileage is definitely improving. Keeping my speed at 70 with cruise control, I got 17. 6 (hand calculated). 1700 miles on the clock now. After is loosens up, I'm sure it will do as well as my previous trucks. Great power and soooo smooth!

Its going up fast, I now have 2700 on the truck just filled up and averaged 18mpg. 25% city rest highway. I drove it nice, 70 on the highway and real easy in town.

I can tell mine is running better, but am unable to provide accurate milage numbers because I have been towing on each of the last several tanks (which is probably why it's feeling better). I'm sure it will be fine in the end. I wonder if members were reporting the same low milage numbers when the 03's came out. Of course, that was summer, so they would be better anyway.

Mine is coming up. I need to hand calculate it, but I'm seeing 14. 5 on the overhead.

Anyone know how many gallons are left when your fuel light comes on?

Just towed trailer approx. 250 miles and got 8 mpg. Hope it comes up. I'm just hitting 1000 miles on the clock. Haven't hand calculated it running empty but trip computer says 12. 5mpg.

I have pulled up to the pumps just as the light and bell went off. I put 22 gallons in the 35 gallon tank. 13 gallons is a long way from empty, but it doesn't bother me because the last thing you want to do is run a diesel out of fuel!

Interesting. I put in 32. 5 gallons last night (light was on). An interesting observation. . My comp is showing that I'm hitting 13. 9 since last reset (fuel up last night) and I've got 260 miles and still between 1/2 and 5/8's tank. Which puts it at roughly 15-16mpg. I really really hope that the computer is just off, but we'll see how the last half tank goes.

I hope you guys are right about the mileage improving but I doubt it will jump more than 1-2 mpg. I would be hard pressed to trade in my 96 for something that gets 14-15mpg.

This thread has literally talked me out of my 600 that has been so slow in coming. Tomeygun located me a 04 and if everything goes as planned, I'll be headed there on Thursday to pick it up! I have no doubt that there are some great 600's out there and I'll pro'ly end up buying one in a couple of years, but I do to much highway driving to risk the awful MPG... . The 04 will be easier to bomb also...

A 600 w/real good MPG would be great but I'm sure that I'll love this one just as much. LOL and good luck to all you 600 owners with your mileage. ;)

Best friend just made his trip to the fuel stop with his 600, and here's what he had to say:

Like you and others have said the overhead computer is no where near accurate. You have to calculate mpg by hand.

I'll keep you posted.

I don't know. I average 16 with my '02 and I do 50/50 city highway driving. I do get good mileage on straight highway trips, but those don't come around often. As soon as someone buys my '02, I'm getting a '600'.

Updated Mileage Report

The new 600 is now at 900 miles. Hooked the trailer up to it at 600 miles and went for a weekend camping trip. Worked the motor pretty good on the hills (sure is hard to keep the speed at 50 mph or less).

My first 500 miles was at approximately 15 mpg. That was all highway mileage, the second partial tank was 12. 5 mpg calculated but that was a bunch of short trips without ever getting the thing warmed up and 60 miles of towing the trailer.

I have a nice 15 minute highway drive home. Nice 70 mph pace every day. Haven't had a chance to calculate mileage yet but the overhead would previously read about 16 when I hit the driveway (reset leaving work), after the trailer tow it now reads 18+ when I get home.

It appears to me that a nice workout did the mileage some good. Hope it still looks that way when I calculate the mileage.

I put 34 in mine today. 35 gallon tank and my DTE wasn't even at zero..... about 16mpg..... 1000 miles and winter diesel

533mile/27. 6gal=19. 3mph last tank. No hauling and 50/50 mix of driving. Computer read 17. 2, it's about 2mph off.

At 150 miles I hauled a 7x18 enclosed trailer hard (mountain grades at times) for nearly 1000 miles over the a weekend. Computer only read 11. 5-12. 3. Seams to be improving.

04. 5, 2500, 2wd, 6-speed, quadcab. 2400 miles.

the long haul

Well I just got back from Sacramento for a small weekend trip and let me tell you the milage sucks... I wish I had the 01 back.

I averaged 80mph on the way out to Reno the first night and got 12 mpg towing an empty 3000lb trailer. . left from Salt Lake... Arrived in Sacramento and picked up my load for a friend who is on active duty, CAT scales had me at 19,230 lbs total. I got 10 mpg at 65 mph all the way home... in fact in some flats it was showing 11. 2 average...

Empty it gets 14-15 if im lucky at 65-75mph... .

I hope they have a fix for this... my three dodge diesels have always gotton within a couple miles per gallon at 70000 miles what they got the first 1000 miles...

anybody heard rumors to a fix... if not it might be going back... . this is not the reason I bought a diesel... the new truck is a 04. 5 "600" Auto 4X4 3. 73 quad short bed, stock for now but the mag covers on the diff and transmission. . 2700 miles. . and 2 weeks old. .

on a side note while the cruise is on and going down hill the transmission will shift down to try and hold speed. . it scared the b-jebers out of me the first time it did it... . I did not know it would do this... like an allison
