6500 miles and hand calculated at 19. 35 mpg. This is after removing the AFE PG7 and running a couple of tanks of fuel with the stock air box and filter.

SKelly,

What is the reason for removing the AFE? I was looking into them for my 600, but they are not producing them yet (as of 2 weeks ago). Don't want to change thread topic, just wondering why you went back to your stock intake. Thanks.

Bert

I noticed my mileage went down when I installed the AFE off of my '03. The filter minder was drawn down after about 4000 miles to about 50% restriction so I thought I would try the stock filter and see if the mileage improved. It did. The stock filter will stay on.

The AFE's for the '03 will fit if you remove the hood insulation.

I'm Green With Envy

And broke from the fuel cost of my new truck... .

Still getting 13. 5 avg hand calc in the rural commute I run. We just yanked the boat around upstate NY ( interstates 87, 90 and 81) for 700 miles at a steady 65mph and logged in a dismal 7. 9 mpg. The boat is 12,500 lbs but certainly does not have the frontal area of a fiver.

Truck now has 7500 miles... .

I am 700 miles into a 3000 mile road trip right now. I am finally starting to see some MPG improvement after my truck hit 8K. Yesterday, when I filled up I got 19. 7 MPG (hand calc - overhead said 16. 4) highway. Driving was all highway (except for pit stops) but there was some traffic at construction areas and I hit Memphis at rush hour. I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Does anyone know anything about the reflash that is supposed to be coming out for the MPG issue?

Mileage

My sig tells my calculated mileage story. The observations about high RPMs having an inverse affect on mileage are correct. The RPM sweet spot seems to be 1825, which translates into 62-63 mph. But that speed will also get you run over on an interstate.

Just some follow up

I ran the truck at 70 accross I-5 from Woodland Ca. to Bakerfield Ca. all flat land or as flat as can be... ... ... . overhead cpu said 14. 9 actual had calc 17. 12912

reflash for MPG issue

This from Osci on the Diesel Ram Forum re: the reflash. He's the guy who started this as best I remember.

I talked with dc/ along with dealer reagrding the software or fuel correction on the 600. And of course it's a garbage. Dc now says we are getting information about less fuel economy but nothing is being done. They told me 2 months ago they were working on it and now nothing. I'm at the point where we 600s were the guine pigs for upcomming non corrected fuel issues like in the early 70s. My experience with both dc and the dealer is that no one really cares and as for the tecs, overpaid shucks mechanic. Whatever happened to a mech being able to find out the problem and just plainly fixing it. I can't even imigane telling my capt in the navy, we can't fix it, or don't know whats wrong

I have notice that my best MPG is while under 2000 RPM. Recently went to Spokane at 70 MPH (~2000 RPM) and hand calculated 15. 7, then refueled and ran back to Tri-Cities at 65 MPH (~1800 RPM). After refueling, I calculated 18. 9! My best yet. However, running at 65 will get ya damn near ran over.

I've only got about 1300 miles, so hopefully things will remain or get better. Around town... forget it! It's tough to keep your foot out of it :D
