OK fellas, a little confused here. The regular 04 trucks have a '600' motor, and the 04. 5 have the '610 High Output' (HO) motor? Correct?

I am all ears, thanks in advance.

Once the 325hp 600 came out in 04. 5 their was no longer the SO or HO because the 600 is a 50 state legal diesel. In 05 DC got the numbers to 325 610.

And correct me if I am wrong but if the people with the 600 motors go in for any flash update at the dealership, does that flash you to the "610"??

No the 600 series from '04. 5 will always be 325/600.
The 18-037-04 ECM flash is for smoke on cold start, bad mileage, and correcting the overhead mileage calculator.
This TSB applies to many of the 04. 5's.

I had the tsb mileage flash done about a 1,000 miles ago and have not noticed to much difference other than not as much smoke at cold startup.

MFR date on my truck is 1-04 on the door. I have been very happy with my truck so far, only been back to the dealer once for rear u joints at 45,000 miles.

Just for the record, some of the early 05 trucks were also 600/325 motors. Wehe I bought my 04. 5, they already had 05's on the lot. The first ones were the same as the 04. 5's here in Oregon.

I thought the 600 went to a 610 only with the ac is on, like from a programmed boost or something. I could be wrong though and probably am. But if that's true, I wonder if the 600s are 610s too. :p

I am looking at a truck right now, and the window sticker reads '5. 9 Cummins HO Turbo Diesel Engine' and a black valve cover. What motor does this truck have? a 325 hp or 310hp?

so confused, I am in TX, the truck is in PA

thanks in advance

I know this won't do you any good until you can look at the truck. But on the drivers side of that black valve cover is a sticker that tells the hp and torque
of the engine. Also the manufacturing date of the engine. Hope this helps.

If you are looking at an 05-06 new truck, it is the 325/610 motor. If you are looking at an 04 model year truck, I would pop the hood and look at the sticker mentioned above. There was no 310hp motor.

03-04 were 305/555 (Non emmissions states)

04. 5 is 325/600

05-06 are 325/610

thanks DJennings, that was what I was looking for.

Another question for everyone- the 04. 5-06 trucks have the 3rd injection event, and the 03-04 trucks do not, correct?

thanks again
