Is anyone making a larger turbo that will work on the 04. 5, 600, that has the plug on it to keep the ecm happy.

people are running them but just unhooking the WG actuator and tieing it out of the way somewhere. Most turbos will bolt up fine and you can do this if you are boost fooling the ecm with a performance chip.

So, the ecm is get its fake boost pressure from the box, correct????? What controls the actual boost level at the turbo???

All the Electronic wastegate is, is a valve that opens and closes to feed air to a mechanical wastegate that has been used on these turbos for a while. So if we get a turbo that just has a regular mechanical wastegate boost can be controlled by it. On the 600's if you chip them and the ECM gets false boost readings the ecm will not send a signal to the actuator basically leaving it closed and boost can skyrocket. The actuator is used mainly on full or close to full stock boost #'s, it stays closed down low for faster spool up for cleaner emmisions, then opens to limit boost to stay in the turbos efficiency range.

It is not really an electronic wastegate. It functions just as in the past untill the ECM wants to see more boost, then the valve allows bleed-off of the boost signal to the actuator to allow more boost .

So, as long as I am using some type of box that has boost fooling built into it, any turbo that would bolt up would work as long as the boost parameters in that turbo were large enough for this engine. ???????????????????

It may sence the missing solenoid on the turbo, and set a code. Unplug yours and drive it... ... ... see what happens

Bob,

From what I am hearing.

There is no unplugging, rather a simple removal and solenoid from the turbo. Keeping the unit plugged in to its harness connection.

Then installing and aftermarket turbo.

Does this solenoid just screw out of the turbo, I can't tell by the way it looks but it has to get there somehow.

Yes it screws out with a 1" shavedown wrench.

There is flat sides near the compressor housing on the solenoid.

Thanks to Nathan (Idaho CTD) for that info!

can you remove the solenoid from the harness because there is a plug receptacle between the solenoid and the ecm. The only reason i ask is because the solenoid is rather heavy and tieing it up does not sound like a good idea. I dont want to send off any codes i hope someone here has tried it already on the 2004. 5.

Since that is me I guess I'll answer that. Yes I have played with two different singles on my truck. One is way too big for the fueling of our trucks (about like a HT3B) and the second is about the size of a HX40 and performs quite similar. I am waiting on a smaller housing for it to do some more testing. If all goes well you should see it available in a month or so. Ultimately I'm trying to find a way to make a turbo live behind a TST box. With the 40 sized turbo I ran I never got over 1080* @ 30psi with 100+hp injectors and a pressure box and 445hp. With the stock turbo I did 1350* and 425hp.

So still the question remains can I remove the WG actuator from the harness on the 2004. 5? I dont want to send any codes off this actuator weighs probably 1/2lb so tieing up will be tough.

I have not tried unplugging mine and running the truck. It is very easy to zip tie it up out of the way. Every other sendor/sensor that is unplugged sets a code so I didn't even chance it. Try it and let us know how it goes if you feel the 1/2 pound actuator is too difficult to tie up.
