Does anyone make an aftermarket turbo for the 04. 5's and if so... how much power will it support. . safe boost levels. . etc

I've got twin turbo kits for 3rd gens now. I know it's capable of 550-600hp and boost levels as high as you want or need.

I finished them last weekend. With 80hp injectors and an edge EZ the WOT egts are 1050* and only 550* cruising at 80+mph.

Thanks,

Mark

I'm putting a Killer B2 with an ATS manifold in mine this weekend. It's supposedly good up to 500HP.

http://www.htturbo.com/

***NOTE*** None of my turbos come from HTT. They all come from Turbo Auto Diesel in Pheonix, AZ. They build the B1, B2, BigBrother, B52 etc. They are not the same turbos as the supposed HTT equivalents.

I sell the "Schwitzer B-1" HTT speaks of and there is a version that is available called a B1-03/04 that is a bolt in replacement for the the stock turbo.

I also build a B2 twin turbo kit for the '03 + trucks (uses the stock turbo with a B2 and external WG).

I promise you that if you have a truck that is or will be over 400hp the extra money for twins is well spent. they are more driveable(less lag, lower egts) than any single. Head gaskets live longer on properly designed twins because the drive pressures are not excessive (Ask HTT what the drive pressure is on a 12cm or smaller killer b2 at 55psi of boost) Drive pressures on HY/B2 twins remain at or below 1:1 to 60+ psi. Very few singles will make it above 45psi in a housing that will spool well behind an automatic.

I'm not bashing HTT. I'm bashing high hp singles. They all rob Peter to pay Paul. They either spool well or they flow well not both. With twins you "get your cake and eat it too. "

You can make twins spool WELL below 1500 rpm and flow enough for 650+ hp.

I spent several thousand $$ on singles before my first set of twins... I'll never go back

Oh, I will agree with you on all accounts there. I personally looked at twins and decided ot take an intermediate step. I'm not at the level of sled pulling or drag racing. A twin kit was three times as expensive. I'm keeping the boost levels below 50psi until I can justify doing the right setup like an Oring job to support the boost you get from twins. I hear about Nick's truck being broken and in the shop a lot. I don't want to keep the local rent-a-car in business while my daily driver is in the shop.

That's why God invented wastegates ;):D

My daily driver has twins and no gasket issues. A single at 50 psi will usually have as much drive pressure as twins at 55-60psi.

A twins kit for an '04 runs $3500 . Most of the schwitzer hybrids run about half of that after a downpipe.

The 'guinea pig' :-laf was Craig Monroe. We bolted the twins on and he made a 800 mi trip home with no leaks and no failures. I've built twins for '03+ before but nexver with a B2. Cruising EGTs at 80+mph were 550*. WOT EGTs were 1050*. Max boost was 54# with a 58# spike on the shift into OD. The wastegate needs to be adjusted to somewhere in the 40's instead of 50's. I think more fuel is in his future ;):D

There was a noticeble increase in power over the HY9 alone... . As expected

Above all THEY REALLY SOUND AWESOME

The cost is going to be $3600. They were $3500 but turbos went up by 20% today #@$%! #@$%! #@$%!

Mark, do you need a guinea pig for an 04. 5 Oo. I'll be at Texas A&M's Fire School in April. Be glad to drop the truck of with you for the week.
