04.5 with sooted bumper ??

Just got home from a 1200 mile trip.

I was not towing anything.

The bumper and rear quarter panel have soot all over the place.



Only mods I have done is the AFE stage 2 filter and a magnaflow muffler.



Is this normal ?? :{

Yes mine did this too, when it was stock. Now with the Juice/Attitude it is even more.



No complaints here, one thing you can do is put a tip on there and it will help. I just put the tip on and extended it about three inches. This helped alot but I still get some soot on the bumper.

My 05 is virtuallly brand new and it started to accumulate on first tank. Maybe it should, but it doesn't bother me. I am old school diesel and seems reasonable to come with the terrritory.

Kinda like brake dust on a Porsche. Use to be a sign of a high dollar performance vehicle! Soot on the bumper is a sign of DIESEL! Get a LONGER tailpipe and you won't see it anymore.

Get the Mopar (or any other) chrome extension and it will go away. Otherwise keep it clean with a bit of wax when you wash it.

In Michigan we put so much salt on the roads that any self oiling system that is available to protect the body of our vehical is appreciated. Now if I could only get that protective smear on the driver side.

I did a tail pipe routing change & exhaust tip change to control sound & soot ... ck my pics. The tip showed the soot ... that black "creep" up the chrome. Then I put on the HX40 & was amazed how it went almost all away.

I used to get a light dusting of soot on the end of the bumper of my '03 when it was stock.

I gotta dredge up this topic, because it is close to what I want to discuss.

I have the soot also, and I deal with it because it does come with the territory. I recently noticed something else going on in the same spot where the soot builds up. The Chrome (if you can call it that ) is starting to discolor, almost as if it's being exposed to lots of heat. I don't know if it's a result of soot exposure or tailpipe heat? Is anyone else noticing this? I haven't tried a chrome cleaner to attempt to remove it.

Hes talking about the bumper... I have seen this on many 3rd gens. I am pretty sure its because of heat.

I had that blue discoloration too, when I had the stock chrome bumper. It always came right off when I washed the truck.



Apparently, soot on chrome looks blue! :-laf

get on the highway and set the cruise. setit in an area and at a speed that you can let it be for an hour and a half or two. then mash the throttle like you are going to pass someone like passing should be done, BUT watch your pass side mirror... .

My brother was having the same problem... . The bullydog tip in summit racing mag. that is a long 45 degree elbow took care of it. It really is a nice piece.

that's the cat getting hot and burning off all the accumulated soot...



I test drove a bone stock 98 the other day... I railed on it and it smoked that brown/gray haze for a good while... after the third "pass" it quit smoking

I bought the sport package with the black bumper so I wouldnt have to clean off the chrome. Something I did get a kick out of was the dually tail pipes are the same as the SRW. You have the dually fender hanging right over the tail pipe. I was able to find an extra Banks tip at a truck place around the corner and twisted his arm until he let me have it.
