Well here it is,

after 6 months of waiting the dealer (Greg Reardon at Smokey Point) installed a new, revised 04 clutch in my one ton. I looked at both the new one and the old one and they looked alike, both rattled a bit when shaken by hand. But the new one DOESN'T rattle after being installed. At least not yet. The old one did from day one especially in gears 1-4.

This is not the 03 TSB rattle when clutch in, its in all gears when driving and was getting to be a pain. SO... ..... maybe its fixed, time will tell. I had other shops tell me it was the transmission, but clearly it wasn't if replacing the disk seems to have done it.

The new clutch apparently has the same part number as the old, but whatever, my invoice says part no. 52107775AC DISC. Part manager says sometimes they change the part without renumbering it. Seems odd but whatever.

Now the good guys: The service manager at Greg Reardon Dodge, Tara, who took the time to listen to me and keep talking to DC "Star" folks in Auburn Hills or somewhere in the great midwest.

Also a good guy: Peter at Southbend clutch. First class outfit and people.

Also the guys at clutch doctor on Everett Mall Way and Bill at A-Z clutch in Everett. Thanks for working with me! These guys are great.

The not so good guys: Karmart Dodge in Burlington WA. The service department gave me the old "they all do it" thinking I was a total idiot. I just about mounted a small claims case against them just for the satisfaction of stuffing it to them, but the worst part would be to have them actually try to fix it. (God forbid).

My buddy Michael had his truck in for service, they drained out his synthetic crankcase oil, put in regular oil and failed to put the filter on properly. Oil all over the truck and they wouldnt even make it right. It wasnt even in for an oil change!!!!

My advice, steer clear of Karmart. Period. I'll never buy a truck their again.

Here is my old post from last November,

I have driven several new 2004 1 tons that have a rattle, all of them on the dealer lots. I just met a guy who had to have all clutch parts replaced at 3K miles and that fixed it for him, but the dealer never did figure out what the problem was. I was gonna buy a truck last week but the rattle is too noticable. They replaced the disk, but it didnt change at all.

Anyone know which component it is that rattles? Springs, or what? The dealer didnt really try to find out buy listening and driving it a bunch, just went ahead with the new clutch disk.

I think DC has a major problem here on 04s, and I sure as heck aint going to buy one that rattles when brand new! [/B][/QUOTE]
