I'm looking at a 04 2500 CTD with 60k miles. Owner says clutch is slipping. Any idea what a ballpark would be for installing a new clutch?

60k miles sounds awfully low for a new clutch. Perhaps it's been hotrodded or driven hard?

Thanks,

When I bought my 04 a little over a year ago it had 50,000 miles on it. The dealer had just installed a new clutch. I installed a smarty, 90hp DDP injectors and a modified stock turbo. After that I could slip the stock clutch at will. I installed a Southbend OFE. I did the work myself and you can get the clutch around $800. 00 give or take. My friend had one installed and it cost him about $2000. 00 with the clutch. My last dyno I was right at 530hp with the upgrades I have now. The OFE is still working great. If you plan on more then look into the FE. It just isn't going to be as easy backing up a trailer:rolleyes:

Clutch Cost

I have an 07 w/ a 5. 9 that has 70K on it. I replaced the clutch with 65K and it IS NOT ridden hard. The total cost was approx. 1900 give or take (Eastern Nebraska Dodge Dealership). A SouthBend clutch would cost about 2300 installed. If I had it to do all over again- I would go with the Southbend. I notice a BIG difference in the feel of the clutch since I got it fixed too- before had ZERO play- now it feels normal. After researching on TDR I found that the clutches on the newer style Dodge are suspect and there is a TSB on them as well. Good Luck to you- enjoy your "new" Ram.

Ask him if the clutch is sliping or just hard to put in or out of gear. It could be the slave cylinder is bad, not so munch money. Good luck

Thanks guys. As I suspected it's not a cheap fix. Clutch is slipping because he's hopped up the motor and run it hard. I'm looking for a stock truck and this one, while it looks good and makes enormous power just isn't for me. It sounds like it's been run hard on the street and off road.

save the cash and do it yourself for under 1000. 00 than take your family out on the town with the money you saved...

If you don't have a lift and a transmission jack or two have it done so that you still have a back and a set of knees to earn a living for your family. :)

I would say they are very easy..... with the right tools.

Also a side note... if you are having trouble getting your NV5600 into gear and have Amsoil in the transmission, try adding a bottle of friction modifier to the transmission. I was having trouble any time I raced the truck. I was ready to pull the transmission again. A friend told me to add friction modifier to the transmission and I haven't had a problem since. Oo.
