04 ECM onto 04.5 Truck

I talked to one guy who told me this should work but might have to make a trip to the dealer for a flash. I've got an 04 ECM came off of a automatic truck same as mine. Only this was 555 engine and mine is the 600. I would like to do this to delete the 3rd injection event and help fuel mileage. I already run a manual wastegate with the electronic solenoid fooled so that's not an issue. I realize it would detune the engine a little but I run a TST so lack of power is not an issue. What do Y'all think, will it work???? Also, if I put my original ecm back on to send this one off to get it tuned up, when that's available, any issues there????

How does the ECM know what vehicle it's on???

Its a computer; it knows whatever its programmed to know.

The 2 computers talk to each other.

They program the VIN into the computer when they flash it. The 04. 5 has additional programming that the 04 does not, the processer might be different as well(?)
