Truck Hopping??

Above is what I'm giving back.

Well looks like I got an extended test drive of two weeks on what I thought was going to be my new truck. The dealer was unable to get the deal financed at the rate they quoted me. I knew the deal was too good to be true, same payment that I already paid, just extending out the length of time since I had paid a year and a half on my present loan. My credit union wants my loan through them paid off before they give me another loan at a low rate, but they’ll give me a second loan at 7% but not one at 3% to cover my trade??? It’s pretty ridiculous, but oh well. Tomorrow I’ll be returning the truck to Chapman Dodge here in Las Vegas.

I’m not sure what they do in the case of selling a truck that gets returned like this, but the truck has around 2500 miles on it and runs really well. It got a low of 15mpg and a high of 19. 2mpg the other day and it’s not even broke in. Someone should get one heck of a deal on it now that it’s used.

I get to negotiate getting my money back for things like the window tint and bug shield that I had installed. Luckily the only thing I pulled out of my 02 was the DD True Torque Module and not all the other parts they said I could have like my air horn, satellite radio, Mag Hytec, etc. Someone also made sure to empty out the 10 bucks in cash and change that were in the ash tray by the time I went back to grab my things from inside.

Now I have a really good idea of exactly what I want in a truck for next time. This truck had most of the options, with exception of a few things I thought I could live without, but won’t next time. I’m going to go with a 3500 instead of the 2500 and probably a long bed since I won’t be driving in Las Vegas. Other things I’ll want are the limited slip differential, auto dim mirror, engine block heater, and maybe the Laramie package if the price is right.

Well enough of my story, I’m not too sad. I missed driving and hearing my 02. Missed the exhaust brake and satellite radio and all the other mods I wouldn't have been able to put on the new truck for awhile. It was nice being able to converse without saying what all the time, but everyone missed my 02. We all missed Chuck, yes his name is Chuck the Truck :D , he has lots of personality and many memories. Good thing we never got around to giving the 04 a name, I guess he’ll just be remember as our orphan for awhile. It was all meant to be, I told everyone I would keep the 02 in the family forever, and tomorrow he’ll be back at home where he belongs. It was fun to be an active participant in the 3rd generation forums but I guess I’m headed back to the 2nd generation forum for awhile. I don't think I'll be able to get into a new one for awhile now. Guess I'll just have to wait til the rumored 05.

Kyle,

Why not wait a day or 2 after turn in and do a buy on it. You know what it has and how the miles were put on. She could probably get a good deal on it. And then you still have both trucks but hers with a BIGGER discount as it it now a "used" unit.

Just a thought.

SOTSU!!

PS: Also posted this in the other thread that you had a reply in.

Negotiate hell, Your gonna get nailed, thwacked, ambushed, screwed, bring your checkbook. You touched the truck, prepare to pay.

Try one of the online finance companies like http://www.peoplefirst.com.

It won't be 3%, but should be 4 - 4-1/2%, which is really not a big difference, $25-$35, if your watching your payments.

Or, take the deal as it is, and look for new financing, you can re-finance almost anywhere too. It will cost you $80 or $90 bucks for the higher interest for one month, big deal.

Negotiate some, get $3-4K off the price and youv'e made up for the higher payments.

Hell, I've bought a new car on my credit card, then financed it a month later, theres always a way.

And, if you gave them your trade already, they don't have to give it back, they only need to give you fair market value, their idea of fair. They can even legally sell you back your trade for a higher price. They can charge you for damages, rent, mileage, dimunition of value, and whats more, they can even charge you this AND still sell you the same truck.

You are entering the lions den, watch out.

(Not a slap at Chapman, I buy from them too, just dealers in general)

Our negotiations ended up being very civil. Suprising to me when Michelle in the finance department said "I want my truck back no later then 5 tomorrow and don't put any more miles on it. " I got my truck back and they got their truck back, no feelings hurt. I ate the cost of the window tinting, but I just figured it was fair in getting to put 2500 miles on their truck instead of mine for half a month. They asked me what they could do to keep me in the 04 and I said finance the deal we had in writing. They weren't able to hold up their end of the deal and I will never deal with Chapman in the future. I find it very disturbing that they are a "5 Star Dealer. " I'm not sure what is taken into consideration but they are very unorganized and unprofessional. Not taking a stab at them, just the honest truth of my experience. Last year Towbin tried to low ball me on my trade in when buying my 02, so I sold it private party for $5000 more than they said I would get, but besides that, the deal was put together and followed through the way it was supposed to be. Don't think I'll ever trade in another vehicle or have the dealer try to finance anything. Much quicker and simpler when you have a loan before you make the deal.

So how meany miles were put on your 02 while all this was going on? What was the sticking point, intrest rate? what?

Chapman Dodge

I would never buy another truck from Chapman. How they became a five star dealer is beyond me.

I know from too many experiences their service department is the worst in Las Vegas. Hell,I would drive to Carson City to have warranty work done rather than let Chapman touch my truck.

The last time they worked on it they "lost" the keys when I came to pick it up.

Two hours later the keys were found in a mechanics tool box. No apology,no explanation, no nothing! I tried to talk to the general manager, the assistant manager and the service manager could care less.

That is not an isolated case either. I have a few more experiences where they [Chapman] convinced me that they do not know what customer care means.

I think you were lucky with your experience.

As the saying goes when you deal with Chapman Dodge, "When you have a problem,You have a problem. "

That's not good to hear. The reason I asked is because Desert Dodge just down the road is quite high on their prices--as far as buying a truck. I was hoping there was an alternative.

Only 799.9?

Only 799. 9 HP? Come on Joe, push it for one tenth more. I'd like to see that beast. Thanks for the word on dealers.

Benson, when I bought my truck a year ago, Desert was more willing to bend a bit more my way then the other goobers in town!Still would like to make a couple of hood ornaments out of some of Chopper's boy's that tried to f*** me royally when I was shopping for a truck!!
