The 3rd Gen wheels will fit with no modifications. You can even use your stock lug nuts. I have heard that on 4WD's you can have some very slight tire rub on the tie-rods (I think) at full lock. The 3rd Gen wheels have slightly more offset to them so they sit in a little more than yous stock wheels.
Those are the alloy wheels correct? They must be a tad thicker than the chrome steel wheels from an 05 that I put on my 95. I had a small clearance issue with the nuts on the end of my rear axle. I had to run a die grinder on the inside of the chrome hubcaps so that they would snap into place.
Wow, that is good to know. So to clarify, the alloy wheels will fit fine, but the steel chrome wheels need some clearance in the hub cap. Both are 17 inch diameter.
I went with the steel ones as I had found a set on craig'slist that also had good Michelin tires for 200. I figured at that price, I saved enough to get the alloys next time around!
I don't know about the steel wheels. A friend of mine has the steels on his '98 but I don't know what hubcaps he's running. I'm speaking from my experience with the aluminum wheels and you have the experience with the steel wheels.
I know that the hubcaps are the same, my sister in law has a 2005 with the alloy wheels. I just wanted to make sure everyone who reads this knows what they are getting into if contemplating a switch.
