04 vs. 04.5?

i am sure this has been discussed before and i apologise but i cannot find the answers. a good friend just bought an 04 dually build date of 06/04 and i don't know if it would be the 04. 5 or not. also what are the differences between the other than the 305/325 hp motors. thanks in advance for the help

If the build date is after 01/04 it is a 4. 5 with the 325hp 600tq Cummins. Other then the engine I don't think anything else is different.

Didn't they move the lift pump from the fuel filter housing on the motor to the fuel tank in '04. 5?

The lift pump is on the engine on 04. 5's with the in-tank lift pump being the supercession repair. Geno's has the original type lift pumps for those that choose to keep the original fuel system configuration.

Model year '05 was the switchover.

The '05 may also have plastic intercooler tanks instead of metal.

04 vs 04.5

The "early" 04 doesn't have a CAT. Mine has an aluminum intercooler. Tell your friend to buy an extra lift pump to put in the boonie box. Check for proper operation of heater/AC distribution. I have decided that some of the issues these things have are worth it to have the Cummins. I only have 305 HP, but that is plenty for blastin' down the freeway. Have fun.
