I’m looking at buying a 04 quad cab 6 speed with 40,000 miles vin # 3D7KU28C44G266264. While talking to the sales man he told me the truck has no engine warranty because the previous owner had a chip on it. My question is there any way to look this up to confirm the information is true? How about to see what warranty work has been done whether or not it has had injectors, valve-seat or engine work done the truck is 7 hours away and my local dodge dealer is no help they told me that they could not disclose the information on the truck due to I’m not the owner.

I would be cautious on that one. I seriously doubt it had the warranty revoked for just being "chipped". Probably what happened is it came in for some major service repair and the dealer and or dodge found evidence of tampering. Thus voiding the warranty. I never had trouble with a dealer, especially the selling dealer, giving me a vehicle history. There probably is something to hide!

I agree with GButia. When I was looking at my truck used from a dealer they printed me the service report from dodge and carfax. They did this without me asking and showed them to me without me asking. They told me the prior owner had some mods (box) on the truck and took them off when he traded in. I was still able to obtain a warranty if I wanted too also.

I went through a similar thing at a local dealership. I was looking at an 06 Sport 3500 dually that hat 42k miles on it. I popped the hood and saw a sticker right on the front that said the ECM had been reprogrammed. When I asked the sales guy about it he was like what is that. Nobody would give me an answer about what had happened or if there was a warranty or not, so I just walked away.

The truck is in Idaho 7 hours away, I’m in Wyoming and went in to the local dealership with the VIN# to see if they could give me any information about the truck they confirmed that there was something going on with warranty but would not disclose to me what the whole story was. Is there any place online or does any one have access to Dodge that could find out the history of this truck? The dealer who has the truck is not a Dodge dealer but did say it was a local trade in.

The sticker you're referring to is normal. The dealership puts that on if there has been a reflash of the ECM for updates. I would never expect a car salesman to know anything mechanical about what he is selling, most of them are morons and will tell you anything if they think it will sell a vehicle. Service writers are a little more knowledgeable but far from experts.

With what I learn thru research on forums like these I usually know more than even some of the mechanics.

The selling dealer sent me some pictures and udder the hood I could see a sticker that was of a diesel performance shop. I did some searching and was able to find a phone number of the shop called them to see if they new any thing about the truck it turned out that it was owned by the shop and had many engine problems burned #5 piston and had pulled the engine twice did not get the whole story but the previous owner told be to be cautious of that truck. I sure do appreciate all the TDR member help and am glad I did not get stuck with that lemon
