What is the difference, if any between the two transmissions?

Probably nothing. 05 had some minor internal changes I think as well as the delete of O/D lockout and tow haul added.

The ECM controls the transmission on 04's also. The 03's have a separate PCM.

Didn't that start with the 600 series 04. 5? I just remember Carlton Bale talking about it on the long winded jacobs brake thread a year or so ago.
