My 2005 3500 with 48RE and 295K on the ticker is becoming increasingly worse about shifting from launch to about 20mph. This is most annoying around town as little throttle pressure is required and it seems to hesitate a couple of times on the way upto 20mph. Dealer doesn't have much advise other than it could be tps or tx. (didn't think 05 used tps anymore) Truck is bone stock and gets mostly hiway non-tow miles and regular service incl tx.

I would like to here from some of you out there with alot more trany experience than me.

Thank You

Well, it doesn't have TPS so that is out. If Texas(tx) really makes it shift bad then just leave and see what happens. :-laf

Not sure from the description what shifting problems you have under 20 mph but if it the usual it is shuttle shifting between 1 and 2 under light throttle. To clarify, shuttle shift is the transmissions inability to figure out what gear it wants at a given time.

Since your out of warranty getting the dealer to fix it probably a lost cause because they would put the same old crappy parts back in it so you need to source some parts that actually work most of the time and stay working longer that the typical OE ones.

Call Sun Coast Diesel Transmissions and request 1 Dodge 618 Upgrade Governor Pressure Solenoid Kit and 1 Governor Pressure Transducer. The Suncoast transdcuers seem to be a better piece than available elsewhere and the solenoid upgrade is the same as you can get other places. You could probably save yourself $10-15 on Ebay if so desired. The upgraded solenoid looks like the attached pic.

If that doesn't work to your satisfaction do this:

Remove the TTVA motor.
Remove lower cover - Metal cover that is clamped with metal tangs.
Remove cover carefully so the gears do not fall out.
If you turn the shaft counterclockwise, looking at the actuator up side down, it can result in codes 1751 and 1754.
Adjusted the shaft one tooth CLOCKWISE.

If you still have shuttle shift you will have to dig into the VB, servos, accumulator, etc, to find where the problem is. A shift kit and billet verions of the previous is not a bad idea either and will definitely help with flaky shifting. However, the 2 things above are rlatively easy and usually fix the problem.

Thanks for the reply, after 295K I would think the solenoid and transducer would do the trick. My son is a mechanic so he should be able to install these parts and get me smiling again.

DDeputy,

The recommendation by Cerberusiam regarding the gov solenoid and sensor from Suncoast is exactly the path I took. I did it because I knew at 55k miles that either could cause problems down the road. Solenoid is very easy to change, in fact the most critical area to focus on getting right is disconnecting the electrical connectors without damaging them. Simply using patience and paying attention to properly unlatching the connectors and it is pretty simple. The pressure sensor has a dual latch. You have to unlatch what appears to be a backup latch (red colored on mine), then with it slid back, the main latch can be unclipped. When it come to using the right torque on small hardware like this I use a beam style torque wrench which I used to use when working on fuel injection pumps. I have an inch pound clicker type but hesitate to use it on something like this until I get it calibrated. I'm a believer in calibrated tools, learned some painful lessons in the past that all torque wrenches don't come from the factory calibrated right (even expensive ones). Patience - keeping it clean and attention to detail will pay off.

Just a follow up on my shifting problems, changed the sensor and solenoid cleared the 1-2 shift problem. 303K and truckin original transmission

Im thinking that the solenoid and sensor should be changed at every transmission service, unless you upgrade to the aftermarket GM part. .
I installed the heavy duty Borg solenoid and sensor about 18 months ago. . all has been well, but I felt it try to shuttle shift just the other morning for the first time!
