I just bought an 05 3500 yesterday and am really impressed thus far. I have owned a 92, 95, 97, and 99 CTD and was impressed with all except the 95 in different ways. I even owned an 03 DMax for 6 mo until it was totalled. Well I am back with the CTD if that tells you anything. . I just want to say that I am a follower of Diesel boards in general and have to say that if what I am seeing people gripe about in the last year is the worst that the 3rd gens have to deal with, I am/was more than willing to lay down the money to buy mine. The new trucks have improved on virtually every area that I would have touched on inc. handling, ride, noise, interior, and overall fit and finish and it certainly will make making payments a lot easier. Again, so far I am very impressed and proud of my new truck. Thanks :) Oo. :)

I just bought an 05 on Monday. Traded a 97 Powerstroke in on it. I am very pleased with my decision! I too am very impressed with not only the engine, but even the auto transmission and the overall truck. I agree that the gripes on these boards is certainly nothing to be too concerned over especially when comparing to the PSD and Dmax gripes.

I traded my '03 2500 SO on an '05 2500w/610 last Saturday. This 610 has so much more/smoother response than the SO had. I also feel it's much quieter. Very pleased so far.....

Yep my 05 is better than I thought it would be. I was very worried about the fuel mileage being poor.

The fuel mileage is actually better than my 03! Oo.

I drove my '95 for six years and I still have it, but I sure wish I would have upgraded earlier. The new pickup is a lot nice to drive mainly because the peice of mind of haveing a new pickup and not a old one.

Picked up the 05 today

Dropped of the 04 555 QC Laramie 4x4 48RE today and picked up the same truck in a 610 05 version today as a result of a buy-back due to the vibe issue at 70mph. Ok here is an honest assessment of the two and a comparison as I am not a Dodge die hard just a Cummins fan. I had no issues with the 04 except for the vibe issue. None. Yes it was only 11 months old with just under 21K but everything worked perfectly for that short period of time. Good truck... . just one major issue. Now as far as comparing the two there is one small change that makes a driving it much more fun and that is the new TOW/HAUL program. The old one was nothing but a O/D lock-out with this one it does not only not lock-out the O/D but also really changes the shift program..... it is obvious. The 48RE also shifts MUCH more smoothly, in the old one going into O/D was almost violent..... in this one it is like your grand fathers old Lincon... that smooth. I do not know if that is a result of the new shift program or just differences in transmissions. The 610 is hands down quieter... ... I drove them back to back. I will have to wait till it breaks in to compare power/mileage. Also due to the new one not having the snow plow package it rides a little better. Other than that all is the same.

I'm glad you said that... told my wife the '05 is much quieter than the '03 and she said it was my imagination..... I had both trucks on Monday (had to get the stereo pulled out of the '03)... I also drove them back to back... . world of difference on engine noise..... Oo.

:) Hands down, the 610 is incredible. At 12K miles the power and milage are moving up. Acceleration at freeway speed leaves Ford and Chevy in the dust.

Waiting on 05

I'm glad you are all happy with your trucks. Mine is being built and should be shipped next week. Anticipation is killing me now, thanks alot Doug

From what I've read and been told by the dealer the snow plow prep only adds the skid plate for the transfer case and a larger alt. Although I think adding the cummins gets you a larger alternator than the the snow plow prep does. I don't think you get heavier front springs any more with this option.
