05' Blown Innercooler!!! Anyone else heard of this?

I went by the dodge place the other day and they gave me an innercooler that came out of a 2005 dodge. The plastic side tank was separated from the aluminum. They said it had a chip on it. Has anyone else seen or heard of this? How much boost are these things tested for?

Blowing the IC's on the early 05's was a problem. Bit of a QC problem getting the tanks fastened from the sound of it and these trucks will make 35 psi stock. Mid 05 they switched to an aluminum IC and no more problems. I believe they think the problem is solved and went back to the plastic tanks for 06.

yeah we have a limited edition. at least we won't have to justify why we need an aftermarket one.

Just an FYI here, http://www.industrialinjection.com/ has a stock aluminum IC that looked good as new. I talked to the owner (Brady) he said he would sell it for $250.



I think it's a good deal, but I'm thinking if I'm gonna spend that much I will go aftermarket.

I'm definetely thinking aftermarket. Anything to improve the performance and longevity of the truck is a plus to me. I'm curious who makes the most durable and efficient coolers for our 3rd gen trucks? Any thoughts or experience out there on that?

I would like to find an Aluminum to replace my plastic also. If there is anyone that has one, let me know. I would like aftermarket, but would settle for a stocker as long as it is aluminum.

I read somewhere that DC was going to change the ECM to record the Max boost pressure that the system see's... ... it seems that a great deal of the IC failure they feel is from over boost from added features we install..... and that if the ECM see's over boost warranty claims will be turned down... .



I've statements on this board that some of us... . have boost pressures up to 50 psi. . which can cause failure... . once the failure is tracked I'm sure we'll see the plastic parts back on the IC... .

But don't the boxes fool the ecm what the real boost pressure is, anyway?

They (DC) have changed it back to aluminum in 06. I read a few articles about stock trucks towing heavy loads up hills that were able to blow out the plastic. DC tried to be slick they thought only modified (chips/modules) would blow out the plastic. But it appears they were wrong.

Yeah justifiable upgrader here as well. I have had the truck filled with stuff (say an additional 1000lbs in the bed) and pushed my truck up some of the grades here in PA and in tenessee last summer. 40 lbs of boost and lets just say I am pretty sure if mine were weak it would have gone by now. Still, I do feel like taking bets on when it will pop. I think im gonna et the banks one soon.
