My buddy and I took his 03 D-Max to NC to pick a 24 ft 5-er. Well I gotta tell ya'll I am sure his truck would spank mine on the interstate pretty bad and maybe from a dead start too! To say the least I was impressed. His is totally stock, 3. 73 W/auto. Mine is totally stock 3. 73, auto, both 4x4 and same size tires his is extended cab, mine Quad cab. His 290 hp 520 tq , mine 325hp ,610 tq. What gives?

What gives is the Allison. 5-speeds and decent tight shifts. I had one. I would rather be a little slower than have that injector eater.

I traded an '03 Duramax for an '05 CTD. I've never looked back. The D-max/Allison has a tighter torque convertor for sure, that alone will make it faster. I think both the competitions V8s run through the rpms faster than the Cummins. Once up to speed though I don't think the DM is really outgunning you. The CTD seems lazy but it is making serious torque. The DM is also defuled to save the Alli in first and fifth on his truck. It is also making a bunch more noise at any rpm but especially at high rpms.

Anyway... . doesn't matter much to me. I owned two D-max trucks and have since seen the light, and I am on my fourth third gen CTD. This is so much more TRUCK. I have fast cars, sometimes I pull them with my truck, thats what it's for right

Not true, we've dynoed several in both 4th and 5th, and the fueling stayed the same. Common misconception.

There is defueling in 4 low however.

Who ever started this rumor needs to be hung by their feet.

Thats because only the 04. 5 and up LLY's defuel in 1st and 5th.

I have many friends that live near me with D-max's, LB7's and LLY's all of which are stock. I would have to say that the LB7's run better for sure IMO (kind of like how the 305 HP cummins can eat up the 325 emmision motors) . Every one of the diffrent trucks runs completely diffrent than the next. two LB7's cant stop losing injectors and are incredibly slow, then there is one LB7 that flat out HAULS! The few LLY's just run OK but everyone thats around here has had alot of EGR problems, no injector probs yet. Plus one LLY just got a Juice/Att. which has made the Alison act up tremedously and I still dont know if it will outrun the good LB7! Which I know for a fact that its stock.

I had an lly... I think my 05 ctd would take it stock to stock..... don't have the dmax anymore but would love to compare.

I raced a 2wd standard cab 6speed dirtymax (not sure on the year. he had 20,000 miles, 2 years tops?) with my truck. we were neck and neck. The dirtymax had what he claimed as a 100HP DLer. prolly a bully dog or superchips or hypertech or some thing.

Now factor in that I weigh, with me, 7100-7400 pounds depending on fuel amount + 125 heavy with the GF riding shotgun. And the dirtymax running NO MORE then 6000. Maybe more like 5600 with the 520 foot pounds motor.

This was PRE- HOT Juice BTW. so I was running 125hp + slippy clutch.

If it doesn't it should. I fried the transmission fluid in my '03 Alli more than once pulling grades loaded in fifth. I traded for the "old tech" 48re and haven't had a problem since :-laf

FWIW: The diesel power (issue 1 or 2) mag rates the 0-60 times of the dodge faster. (04/04. 5 models)... and they appear pretty ford biased..... so assuming they're equip was accurate and the runs were performed somewhat scientifically, should be pretty ballpark, either way, the diffs were so slight, I think it comes down to other variables such as driver, conditions,...

That being said if you really need to beat em, buy a box... . or just skip the drag racing in a truck, and buy a sports car... . :)
