I would start the take-out/tear down process while waiting for oil analysis to come back. Usually takes Blackstone about 2 weeks. It'll be much less stressful if you have another vehicle in the meantime so you don't make rushed decisions.

I have no idea what would make your oil this thick, but I guess we'll find out...

I have also never seen oil this black before. Based on how thick this oil in the filter housing was at 70 degrees when I cut it open, I was thinking that maybe my loss of oil pressure was from this cold thick oil not making it back down to the pan fast enough with with the pan already down 3-4 quarts to start with. ==+++++++++++++== Bet you're gonna find some more of that stuff in the bottom of pan, my guess is that restricted the pickup screen for the oil pump, thus no oil pressure. bg

I dropped the truck off to Scheids diesel last week. They just got into it and it looks like the number 4 rod bearing spun. B. G. Smith, you were right, they said the oil in the pan looks like jelly. We are waiting to see how the injectors test. Good news is the rest of the engine seem to be ok. We may get away with just 1 new rod and of course all new bearings. They still have to get it all cleaned up and go through everything but so far it does not look to bad. :)
