LOL. Just curious, but why did Ford go with a "V" configuration in the first place? I've heard since I was a kid that inline was the only way to go with a diesel.

I know the Ford bolt circle is different, but if Alcoa is going to forge wheels for Ford, it's not as big a deal to put the bolt holes in the Dodge pattern for us Rammers.

Are you sure? All the Fords we have have the same 8-hole 3/4 ton bolt pattern as ours.

I always said if Ford built a 3/4 or 1 ton truck with the same suspension they had in the pre-1980 F-150s they would have something. Of course it would have to a little beefier. Those F-150s and Broncos with the solid axle and coils road and handled really nice.

Who cares of the numbers on the brochure are more than the Cummins, I still believe the CTD will generate more torque at a usable RPM and just outpull GM and Ford. If you bought your truck to work, you have nothing to worry about. If you bought it to play sausage hang at the water cooler with your peers, then you've got something to talk to your therapist about.

GM & Dodge are the only ones currently sharing the 8*6. 50" bolt pattern with the exception of the '98 and older (older body style) Ford SD's. The '99 and newer Ford SD's have an 8*170 mm (6. 69") bolt pattern.

Thanks Greg. I wonder why Ford would *******ise their trucks by doing that. I thought everyone tried to keep the 3/4 ton wheels universal?

I too, wonder why Ford has done lots of things in the past... ... guess that's why there's not (and probably never will be) a blue oval in my driveway.

PS He said "*******ise" :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

... . that's funny !

Curious, they mention 8' and 6 3/4' beds.

Not a 6 1/2' bed? Wheelbase seems the same. .
Yup, SD shorties are 82 inches (6' 10"), so Ford lists them as 6 3/4'. The old body (1980-97) was the same length.

I saw something on Directv (a show about diesel trucks) a couple of weeks ago - I think it was on Made in America. I could swear they said something like 350hp for the 05 PSDs. They didn't mention tq. Anyone else catch that? Craig

I bet that the 570 lb. ft. in the Ford info is a red herring, so the 350 Hp wouldn't surprise me... hope DC is planning ahead to beat that...

If they're going to try to squeeze that out of their 6. 0L, you won't be able to use that kind of power unless you've got the thing floored, which means it'll explode after 5-10 minutes. Ford and GM's V-8 design for their diesels is fundamentally flawed period. The HP/TQ wars are for marketing. Anyone who really uses their truck and wants a diesel drives a Ram because of the Cummins. I see townies and guys towing boats to the lake using Chebby's and Ferd's, I see farmers and ranchers putting food on their tables with Cummin's Rams.

If you want to something to worry about, worry about what happens to Dodge when they don't renew their contract with Cummins. Ferd will jump on that like a liberal on a social welfare program.

Ford will probably rate the '05 6. 0 at 350/570 and then their marketing dept. will be able to advertise it as the "highest hp in any diesel pickup" or some such drivel. You need to recognize that the majority of diesel truck purchasers still believe hp ratings to be more important than torque ratings. Me? I'll keep my 600.

Some guys here thought that when Dodge kept their 600 under wraps till the last minuet, that they got **** on or at least felt betrayed

I was one of those guys and did a bunch of belly aching and whining about it.

However, it retrospect I think I lucked out and missed all the 600 problems. In fact me thinks the 555s will be to the Gen3s what the 98 12v are to the Gen2s.

That is a pretty good looking truck. I would not have a problem driving a Ford or even owning one. The problem is the engines they have and use. I'm not going to buy a F550 just to get the Cummins, its a little over kill for me to go that big or heavy.

If they ever offer a Cummins in a F250 or F350 I would look in to the Ford. But till they do I will stay with my Dodge and my Cummins. I'm happy with it. :D :)

I am not brand loyal to the trucks just the engines right now.

Just way to many problems with Ford engines right now. Once there out for a while and seem to be bug free, then maybe I will take a look at one. But on the other hand is how much will it cost to BOMB. I have a good feeling I will be with my 2nd gen with my Cummins for a long long time. Not to worry guys I'm not going any where any time soon. I'm stuck on Cummins for my pick up. :D
