Gentlemen

Can anyone give me the necessary information that I can give to my service writer about installing the fast idle software. I know its available where you use the cruise control "on" button which in turn will idle the engine up to a set RPM for extended idling. Also does anyone know if it's available for the 01 HO's?.

Thank You in advance.

Mac

On mine they just had to enable it. Since yours is a stick it might not be available.

The 01 has the other fast idle on start-up and the 3cyl thing. The cruise feature does not work on the 2'nd gens.

Your 01 does not have the fast idle that is turned on at the cruise switch. Nor 03s. Just 04 and 05s. Also it is not available on those years(04/05)unless a AUTOMATIC trans truck.

How fast of an idle are we talking about ? My truck (6 spd manual ) will idle up to about a 1000 RPM if it sits for a few minutes after starting. As long as I dont touch the brake it will stay there. Of course it may be because it is only 12 degrees F outside, I might have to wait until summer before I find out if it is a 'cold weather' thing.

Yes a cold weather deal, owners manual states the ramp up to 1000 rpm happens when outside temps are 32F an below.

Thanks DP

What a bummer you can't have it with the 6 spd :{. Would you happen to know why?. Is it because of the auto trans fluid temp?. Man it sure would be nice.

Thanks

Mac

Youve got a Laramie, power seats I'll bet, do what I do, stick a billy on the pedal and push the power seat button to select the desired idle speed. Its HillBilly but it works.

Dieselman

I love it yup shes a Laramie with power seats, though I'm not in law enforcement I think I will use some dowl or something similar

Thanks Mac

Do you think it'd work if we had the dealer try calling STAR and demanding it? I would think if they saw enough interest in it they'd have to do something wouldn't they? I'm going to visit the dealer again sometime soon for a fluid change (normally wouldn't but I'll not sit outside in -5F temperatures and change my oil), and see if they'll call and find out why they can't and try to push for a way to do it...

Up to 1500 rpm. Once its enabled. Truck in park, turn cruise on use accel button to ramp up to a max of 1500 rpm and deaccel back down or cancel to stop in any temp at any time. Leave your 90 year old mother in law ion the truck in 95 degree heat while you play the slots and ramop it up to 1300/1400 rpm with ac on and you can have fun without wet stacking piston rings etc.

Heck,

Since I work at a dealer,(duh) - I hooked my truck to the DC computer and tried to upload an 04 program, it said heck no!!

would not even do it manually if we wanted/allowed

The aftermarket stuff to me isn't the point. To me it's a matter of we should not have to pay for functionality these trucks should have in the first place (like the automatic transmission trucks can have). This is stupid. I'm going to try and find a number for us to call and voice our displeasure at being excluded from this feature.

Tom, have you tried calling up DC and letting them know the lack of this feature is leaving a bad taste in the mouths of a lot of customers? I doubt it'd help much but at this point I'm just spouting ideas, because this is just plain stupid. They could easily make the interlock the parking brake and call it good to use on both.

The computer is capable of it, because we see the computer raise the idle by itself now to 1000 rpm's, all we want is manual control over that feature. I don't buy the fact that the differences are any more than the autos have "park" and they don't feel safe letting us have the feature since we don't have park.

And get this, with my DRB hooked up, I can idle the truck up to 2500 if I want -- So the ability is there, but only with the DRB hooked up... like the Bullydog DL'er (for diagnostic purposes)

I am still hunting a way to get this on my truck... Problem is that if I do, what will happen if DC catches me and find 04 programing on my truck... . I could get sued for using DC equipment for non-company work

I will keep ya'll updated if I hear any changes

PS - i just sold another TDR member, and I hooked up the DRB and enabled the crusie-control High-idle

that is AWESOME!!!!! -- IF ANYONE WANTS TO STOP BY and see me (that has a truck that can do it, 04-05 autos) - I will do for free (if your dealer won't but they should, cause it took like one minute to do)

That rocks. . Almost enought to make me ditch my 03 stick for a 05 auto
