I went to order my new truck today and the fleet sales guy asked me if I wanted to wait for the "05 model which will have the new DC HD 5 speed auto. "

Has anyone else heard about this new transmission? If anyone reading this has knowledge about this, please confirm if DC really is coming out with a new 5 spd HD auto for 2005.

Thanks much!

Regards,

Well, I for one ,am waiting (not very patiently) for the -05's hoping that the auto/EB problems will be ironed out. So 4-spd or 5, just make it compatible with a Jake and I'll be a happy camper!

If you look at the small Sterlings or Freightliners..... both owned by DC you will see some very special MB automatics behind MB diesel engines..... They been very popular and very effective over some of the manual transmissions... . In these units you can get a stock engine and transmission as a base... . both made by MB... . in years past..... no matter what engine and transmission you bought you paid for..... In the smaller trucks 19. 5 GVW and 26K GVW these transmissions aren't very large..... Its my bet that this new transmission is build by MB to compete with Allison..... who can't hardly meet demand.....

Just my thoughts... .

Dream all you want!!

Dream/rumor all you want, THERE WILL BE NO FIVE SPEED AUTOMATIC FOR SEVERAL YEARS!!!!! Probaby 2007. 5 model year you will see a 58RE based off of the current 545RFE transmission

Not to knock dealers, but... .

Ask your self:

How many times has someone working at a dealership known what they were talking about when it comes to the new models??

Sadly, If it's going to happen, you most likely won't hear it from a fleet guy at a dealership first (unless he/she is a true Cummins Diesel fanatic). Part of the reason I suspect is that they have a broad responsibility over several models and often makes... they would have to be Rain Man to be able to memorize all of the changes and specifications about each new model year.

I am an educated consumer and have yet to find ANY personnel at a dealership tell me something that I don't already know -or better yet - know to be totally false. I can't tell you how many times I have been told that MB already had their hands in the "new" auto (which was the 48re). Or about the new V8 Hemi Diesel... . or the new V10 Diesel... . or the MB Diesel..... etc... .
