According to Marco, they all have torque management at some level.

I can tell you that with my truck, the response of even the 30hp setting reveals that there's torque management going on with the stock program.

Can someone tell me what exactly tq management is? Thanks.

I've read somwhere that it actually measures how fast you can accelerate for a given fuel flow, and if you acclerate quickly, it figures you have an empty truck. If it goes slowly, it figures you're towing.

It will limit torque in lower gears (1-3)(it knows which gear you're in by rpm vs. speed) to prevent driveline/differential breakage, especially when towing. So if I understood correctly, it lets you have more power in lower gears empty than loaded, since you will just spin your tires (empty), rather than break stuff.

I notice on my truck that after driving in normal traffic, it is sluggish, but give it one fast acceleration run, and it becomes more responsive.

Also, after towing heavy, it's a rocket for about 10 start cycles. (this may also be Partly due to the burning off of carbon from injectors while towing, but it changes suddenly back to normal, so I figure the carbon cannot deposit suddenly on the injectors. )

I really hate this behavior, and it's annoying when you need to pass, after being in slow traffic for a while. (i've got big injectors, so it really does not limit me all that much, but ... )

On page 21 of issue 52 it states that a 2005 engine using an NV5600 was set for 460 LBS in 1st gear using torque mgmt (in the engineering document from Cummins) upper right part of page a quarter of way down or so... ... just above torque output chart...
