Stopped in at a dodge. dealer today in Merced California. I was looking for the new v6 half ton. Salesman said 45 days. They had an o5 mega cab with 80000 miles. Asking 38000 . Oboy.

If they had a 05 Mega that would be impressive, 06 was the first year of them. I really miss mine and looked at getting another but it doesn't make sense to buy a used 5. 9 mega, they hold there value so well. If im gonna deal with a 6. 7 then id just get a 4th gen.

I'm confused here... I own a 05 dually as listed below. . I don't think I paid that for it new... I can't believe that an 06 Mega Cab will get 38K...

$38,000 of today's inflated dollars have significantly less buying power than the dollar of 2005. The current government doesn't allow accurate reporting of inflation but it is huge.

With all the drama of the 6. 7s,the clean 3rd gens are bringing a premium. Seeing the writing on the wall of things to come is why I bought my 05. My super reliable 94 was still keeping me happy but I wasn't sure it would get me through the retirement years. All that being said 38k is a bit much

I don't think inflation has anything to do with it like Capt. Nutjob claims. As Bob said they bring a premium, if there asking 38k they can probably get 34k if its just right, when I totaled my mega I got $36k out of it, bought it for 40k 5 years and 110k miles earlier!

For those who knock "capt. nutjob", might I suggest trying to get a life of your own. He is entitled to his.
Ciao,
Chip :p

My neighbor bought a 07 MC 5. 9 G56 with 80K miles a few months ago, he paid $36K or $38K. The amount people will pay is amazing for the clean 5. 9's. It does have lift, DVD, etc but it's a lot of cash for a 6 or 7 year old pickup.

I have received several random offers on my '07 Quad Cab recently. Usually happens when buying fuel. Anyway, I will admit that my truck is absolutely beautiful, but I'm not in any hurry to sell. The best one was $33K. Considering that I paid $36,500 for it in '07, those offers are very tempting.

I got offered 33. 5K for mine before putting new tires on it... Apparently the guy has seen me around town for some time now and caught up to me while putting fuel in.

Wow... . mabey I ought to wash my 05 quad cab (111K mi) and hang around the gas pumps a little more! I think I paid like 32 for mine. Didnt think there was a Mega cab in 05, thought they started on 06

What would you buy to replace it or would you just not replace it? I have that problem when I get offers on my very clean garage kept truck with 40k miles. What would I buy to replace it and how much more is that going to cost?

Exactely why I still have the '07. One of the offers that I have received is from they guy who purchased my former '01 from me, so I know he is serious. I just don't know what I would buy.

Been reading along- very interesting. Some thoughts I've had were similar, such as if something happened to my '04, what would I replace it with? I remember the search for a used quad/ club cab ANYTHING in 2003-4 that made me look at new stuff. More importantly and recently, I worry about theft or getting into a bad accident. I haven't talked to my insurance (I'm afraid they'll think I'm scheming) but I wonder what the payoff would be on a truck like that mega or any coveted 5. 9 truck? I really doubt it's replacement or a stated value, like with classic car insurance.

That's a good point and you are correct. The insurance company won't give a hoot what someone paid or claims they paid. In the event of serious damage the adjuster will prepare or have a repair estimate prepared and compare that figure to actual cash value which will be based on miles, condition, and their own appraised value.

I just hit KBB.com and did a 2008 3500 SRW mega laramie 4X4 automatic with 80K miles in my zip code, and checked dealer retail. It was $36K.....

My brother got a $26,000. 00 dollar loan for my 04 CTD with 70K miles and the Loan company didn't even blink an eye. He only paid me 18K for it, and paid off his 03 2500 gasser with a NV4500. BTW, he loves the truck.
