Got the Out of Park recall today in the mail. The fix is supposed to be an "Out of Park Alarm" when the truck is not in Park. Anyone have any details? Has anyone had it done? What are they going to do to my truck?

Your front control module and your instrument cluster will be flashed with new software, causing the horn to sound and h/lamps to flash if your door is not closed, brakes not applied and if I remember right maybe even a seatbelt not buckled when you back up... ... ... ...

Not gonna have it done either, sounds as though it'd be more of a headache than anything. I can only imagine the scenerio for me as I manuever the camper late at night in a campground  Like others I'm sure... . I make sure I'm in "P" not "R" (or anything else) before hopping out :-laf

If anything I have trouble getting mine out of park.

Since it is a software fix and not a hardware fix I am betting the problem is a matter of carelessness and DC is covering their proverbial butts from lawsuits. No company in todays world would be stupid enough to leave a real hardware fault of this magnitude and just gloss it over with a warning bell. The cost would be to prohibitive in a day when juries think nothing of awarding millions of dollars because someone carelessly dumped a cup of hot water in their lap while trying to drive a vehicle.

They can keep their recall, I'll not be making my life more complicated because someone else can't get their vehicle into park.

Im not going to have it done either.

Shortly after I got the truck, I replaced one of the bulds with a combo backup alarm/light.

IV also got a backup alarm off a Cat D9 that I may put back on.

I got my recall notice in the mail as well. I was wondering about this alarm b. s. and now after reading your replies, I know for sure that I am not going to have it done.

It took me 10 tries to reprogram that silly seat belt alarm from coming on! Turn on truck... open/close seatbelt so many times... turn off truck... hop on foot... cuss out loud... do it all again. :{

Nothing worse then a selt belt or any other type of alarm for a hunter that likes to hop in and out of the truck on dirt roads.

I went by the dealership today to ask about the recall (no intention of having it done though). Service manager is a personal friend and he said that the software update was not working properly. Some serious bugs causing a lot of problems. They were actually having to replace instrument clusters under warranty to get it to work (at over 600. each). Supposedly they are trying to fix the software and hoped to have it in a couple of weeks. I politely said "no thanks" and headed on down the road. He did say that they were not trying to pressure anyone to have the recall done but just wanted to make sure everyone knew about it so they could decide for themselves.

I am happy with the truck's performance so I can't see letting anyone mess with the computer. Who knows what else might get changed in the process.

I took dads 05 QCSB 4x4 3500 SRW in for the update and they just got the paperwork that morning so the service manager was a little baffled at how I knew about it..... :( so anyways a little promo for TDR and he knew I was ontop of the ball for the update.

recall went quick. I havent tested it but I will this weekend.

I want pappy to keep the truck in good shape for another few years till I get it so I dont want him leaving it in reverse and getting out... . thats my reason for the recall.

I have done many of these recalls and have not had any failures... ... ... . they maybe having issues with their hardware or possibly not following the instructions properly. This flash requires key off during the flash where most are key on. Also some vehicles depending on how equiped need the abs fuse pulled and the radio disconnected. There is no reflashing of the ECM with this recall.

Had the recall performed yesterday and if I had not read this forum would not have known what was done until I stuck my head out while in reverse :--) . Holding my foot on the brake lightly does overide the alarm. My 04. 5 48re never felt like any of my others when going into park so it always made me nervous to get between it and the 5vr when hooking up. Yea I know about the ebrake but then I drive 20 miles wondering why I have this shudder and the brake lights on, I know I am not the sharpest tool in the box sometimes. :D but this seemed a good idea.

Bob4x4, do you plug into the adl connector (or whatever its called) under the dash on the left of the steering column? I want to make a tag up which clearly forbids doing the E17 "safety recall" and hang it off the place where they would have to plug in to do it. Hopefully this will prevent anyone from doing it during other service even if I forget to say not to.

Our son took his in last Thursday to have it done, and they "fried his brain". It is completely dead. They had to order new part. Service Manager said that someone told him there was a dealer in Nebraska that had "fried" 14 trucks. If only I had read this BEFORE he took it in. Supposedly this "new" part will have the recall problem fixed. We'll see when he gets it back.

Yes the flash is run through the obd connector.

Fred have you ever looked at the parts that make up the Parking Pawl in a auto trans? I have and I haven't trusted the park position by itself since. If fact when I put my truck in park I set the E-brake before taking my foot off the service brakes.
