Just curious as to what problems, if any, are being carried over from the 04. 5's to the 05's, or what new ones have surfaced. Is eveyone happy?

Vibration; smoke, rough idle on startup in cold weather; bad injectors; mileage?

Thanks,

Jim

I have the white smoke and rough idle on cold soak startups... sometimes. Not predictable at all as to when it will or will not do it. Front door seals are tearing. No other problems. Averaging about 17 MPG running empty. I love this truck. :D Oo. I drove it off the lot October 13, 2004 and now have 14,000+ on it!

Have a little over 12K on my 05. Has been great so far. Only problem has been a bad clutch solinoid on the AC compressor at 3K miles. Average milage is around 17 empty. :)

As my 04. 5 is in Lemon Law, I drove 2 05's, a 2500 with a bad vibration at 65 and a 3500 with NO vibes but a pretty bad pull to the right. 2 of my friends have 05's with no issues, like my 04. 5, they get 17 around town, unloaded, no vibes, no smoke. Go figure. Drive it before you hand over any money.

My biggest problem was taking the Wife with me for the test drive (05 3500 QC SWB Laramie) She didn't like the "ride", so I ended up with my current '05 (see below) which she's ridden from VA to NH and back with no complaints :) I'm getting 15 MPG with only 3384 miles on her so far. This is the best vehicle from Dodge I've ever owned! Test drive it well and you should be able to use the "smoke", vibe, and other complaints to see if the one your looking at has any of those problems.

My 2005 has 4,750 miles on it. Calculated mpg on 200 mile trips between IF and Jackson Hole (over Teton - 10% pass) 55 mph (a little 65) 19-20. 5 mpg on winterized No. 2 with a double dose of power service white. However, I hit the wall at higher speeds: IF to Salt Lake and back at 75 mph (some 65) 16. 5 mpg calculated (old 96 12v would get 20 or so). On the Salt Lake trip had what appeared to be a fuel starvation miss (with my foot in it) on an acceleration merge ramp. Perhaps the pusher pump in the tank went to sleep? Only did it once! However, it really woke me up and made me worry. Felt like someone pulled two plug wires. Stopped immediately when I backed off the go peddle.

7700 miles 14. 5 avg city hwy, 10 towing 10K toy box. Don't care about the fuel milage if the tank tells me it's thirsty I fill her up. The 99 got 15-16 avg city hwy, 12 towing the same trailer. The door seals are also tearing on the 05. I love the 56 Honey!!!. The General on/off hwy optional tires are working out way better than I thought they would. I love the interior, the infinity is all mids and lows I'm still looking for the highs!!!. The four wheel elec shift on the fly performs flawlessly!!!.

Im Happy

Mac

I can't comment on problems because I only have 400 miles on my '05, but I can say that this shortbed is smoother, and more comfortable that the '03 LB was. Didn't really realize I had a vibration on the '03 unit I drove the '05 on the interstate. And this 610 engine has so much better response than the '03 SO had...

mine has been a great truck havn't had any problems with it 4,000 miles on it and I get about 15 empty hand cal my friend in his o5 same thing as mine but color says he gets about 19 around town I asked him if that was hand cal or bye the over head quess what it bye the over head I told him to due a hand cal and see if there the same bet there not

I want to thank everyone for their help.

The feeling I'm getting is that we can buy with confidence. Everyone agree with that?

Jim

6500 miles with no problems and getting 17 -19 hand calc mpg empty. I almost hit 20 mpg (hand calc) on a tank, by keeping the rpms below 2k. Last time I will do that... not worth the extra mpg gain.

My 05 now has 3600 miles on it with one long road trip under its belt. Fuel mileage around town is around 15 mpg and 17-20 mpg on the highway (no load) depending on speed. About 30 seconds after start up, a bit of condensation (white) smoke comes from the tail pipe until the engine coolant gets to about 150-160 degrees.

My only complaint is that the 3rd gear synchro is VERY notchy; almost to the point where double clutching is required to get 3rd gear to engage when the transmission is still cold or cool. All other gears engage smoothly when the trans is warm, but 3rd gear is still non-cooperative.

TRY SHIFTING A LITTLE FASTER AND A BIT MORE PUSHY AND SEE IF YOUR SHIFT PROBLEMS I--damn kid left the shift lock on again--i had the same problem on my 05 when trying to shift slow but after riding with my buddy in his 05 and watching him shift it like a chevy 4 speed from the old days I tried it and now "no problem" as far as the 05 I love the new truck see mileage over 16 and 17 if I drive it right but love the power so whats the use?? only one problem--door seal on drivers side with 3500 miles--GREAT TRUCK
