I currently have an 01 ho 4x4 quadcab 6 speed, nice truck today i looked at an 05 dually 6 speed my question is what kind of mileage can i xpect from this truck the dealer told me twice i would get 20 mpg with the 3. 73 gear i remember seeing on this site that guys are lucky to get 14 i also got the truck up to 85 and did not notice any vibration is the 05 as good as the 01 any info good and bad would be appreciated

Which 6 speed does it have? I have gotten up to 21 MPG with mine, and consistantly get 19. Most of the low milage reports from the 600/610's come from people who do not own one.

My 05 dually only has 3500 miles on it but I'm getting 17-18 mpg running empty and 14-15 towing my 5000 lb. job trailer. I do believe that after some miles and time I will be getting 19-20 empty easy. At 65 mph I'm turning 1850 rpm in 6th. That was the sweet spot for my 99 but this engine likes a bit higher rpm so closer to 70 would probably be right. I do have the launch shudder but she runs perfectly smooth at speed. I just installed a Quad box and Aeroturbine exhaust. Next will be a BHAF so she can breath. I haven't figured the millage yet with the Quad but by the fuel gauge it sure looks like the mpg have improved. Of corse it's real hard to keep my foot out of it!

I was getting 18-19 MPG with my 03 dually and 4. 10's. The new 610 motor with 373's is getting 20, but it is a single rear truck

i noticed a little chatter when i first got into it but it quickly went away what is that i think it is the standard 6 speed i asked the dealer what the $ 400 hd transmission was he assured me that the only difference between the two was where you go into reverse it was right and up the $ 400 one he said was down and left

Tell the salesman you will save the 400 and go for just the regular transmission and have him make sure it goes into reverse to the right and up ;)

The 4X4's with the auto's tend to be the one's with the vibes, although I haven't heard of any 05's with the vibes at 70 thing yet.

No flame's intended but I think allot of members are being overly optimistic when it comes to their fuel economy claims. I have had two dually's both with 4:10's.

*The 99 16 MPG empty avg city/hwy,12 towing 10K.

*The 05 14. 5 empty avg city/hwy 11 towing the same weight.

Both hand calculated. I really don't care what kind of fuel economy I get, where allot of people are obsessed with the topic. If the damn thing needs fuel gas her up and be done with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Mac

Oh!! by the way thats a NV5600 under there, she's a "keeper".

I agree! Just get the truck you will love it. :D

My old man has an 04. 5 and he was getting 11-12 MPG empty and about 9 pulling 8500lbs. I got him an Edge EZ, AFE PG7 mega cannon filter, AFE TQ tube, some gauges, and a Donaldson straight thru muffler for his B-day.

He started to see 13-14MPG, not long after DC had the reflash for the white smoke and MPG problem, he got the reflash..... He now gets about 16-17 MPG empty.

Here we go again with this 6 speed issue that's been beaten to death. Right and up is the NV5600 @ $352 invoice and down and left with an L for 1st is the G56 at no additional cost. The NV5600 is the preferred 6 speed.

I have a box-stock 04. 5 SRW, 4X4, QC with a 6 speed. I now have 20k miles on the truck. My mileage has gotten consistently better (improved by around 10 to 15% over new) as the engine gets broken in. I don't tow or haul anything. I use cruise control whenever I can.

On a recent trip to Nashville I got 24 MPG (600 mile RT). I filled up on Saturday and I got 20. 4 MPG for mixed hwy and city driving. These numbers were hand calculated. On the trip to Nashville the overhead reading around 22 MPG (sometimes a little higher/lower depending on terrain etc)

To get these numbers I drive slow (60-65) on the hwy and I ease through the gears with a very light foot. At first this was hard to do because the accleration that these engines can deliver is intoxicating. However, seeing how good my MPG can be is also very interesting to me.

In several copies of TDR I have read that the single biggest factor in MPG is drving style. This fits with my experience.

Expect to get 16-18 like the rest of us. I don't see any change to the 05 that would increase MPG over the 04. 5.

You cannot order a new CTD 6 speed with anything other then the G-56. The NV5600 is no longer an option. That being said, the durability of the G-56 is yet to be proven. Just like a lot of the issues that 1st and 2nd Gens had, the G-56 will have to be proven through experience. To say that the NV5600 "is the preferred 6 speed" really has no bearing on the issue. If you want a new 6 speed CTD it won't be the NV5600.

That being said... I'm very happy (3. 5K on the clock) with my G-56 6 speed. I drove a 2005 NV5600 the dealer had on the lot, before I ordered my 2005. I like the G-56 over the NV5600. I like the way it shifts and I like the way the clutch engages. The G-56 is definitely better then my NV4500 I had in my 2001. Is it "better" or "just as good" or "worse" then the NV5600. Only time will tell.

I get just over 11mpg towing my 13K fifth wheel over rolling and level terrain. I get close to 17mpg empty while cruising down the freeway doing between 70-75mph. That's my story and I'm sticking to it... ;)

I know that, I'm no dumbing. You may still find a NV5600 on dealer lots. The NV5600 is considered the most durable 6 speed transmission because it has been proven. The G56 on the other hand has had a lot of problems, hopefully they have been worked out. :-{}

I think that may be an overstatement. Other than a delay getting the trucks delivered, I have not heard of one first-hand experience of any failures on the TDR.
