05 Silencer RIng?

Is there a silencer ring on the 2005 CTD Turbos?

Welcome to the TDR and yes there is a silencer ring on the 05's.

Same ring as on the other stock turbos. just have a stool or something to stand on to reach down to the turbo. Also dont wear your belt-buckle so it doesnt scratch the paint!

Once you get it out, Then you have to find a special place to hear it. Mine is a grade about 1000 feet long and about a 6%. There is a building on the passenger side of the road with only a side walk seperating the road from the building. There is also a stop sign at the bottom of the hill. I roll out of that stop sign and then get on the loud pedal and between the MBRP exhaust and missing silencer ring, it is the most awesome sound bouncing back at you off that building... . I think I need some alone time now.....

Another newbie here, Before I tear something up... How does it come out?

Take your intake air tube off and you will see a big snap ring and then behind it is the silencer. I used a flat screwdriver to get the snap ring out and then the silencer just fell right out pretty much. Very easy un-install. Good Luck

Thanks! I'll check it out. My buddy has an older powersmoke that he's warmed up a bit and I can hear his turbo coming down the road. Sounds much different than any other truck going by. I'm anxious to join the chorus!!!

Thats all you can here on a powerstroke is the turbo? Get a Cummins :-laf

Powerstrokes are all right don't get me wrong, I just like Cummins a lot better.

The only way to find out is to pull your intake air tube off and see if there is a round 1/2 wide ring with a big snap ring holding it in. If there is then yes it is the same. It's the same turbo as on the 05 so my guess is yes it should be the same simple procedure. Give it a shot.

Another elementry question BUT does removing the silencer ring effect anything else (good or bad) other than allow more turbo noise?

Does it hurt anything no, does it help anything no. The only reason that ring is in there is for quieting down the turbo. I see the same boost pressure wether it's in or out. Honestly though I don't 100% know that it wont hurt anything, but the reality is it's just a ring what could be hurt with it missing other that a little more noise? Maybe some one else has proven facts about it, but I think you will get the same answer, it's not going to help you or hurt you. LET HER WHISTLE!
