Gentlemen

Are any of you 05 56 Honey owners experiencing the shift knob turning on it's own?. Man I can't seem to figure this one out!!. I tried to turn it both clockwise and counterclockwise and without putting a 27" pipewrench I cant move the d** thing what gives?. The 1st-6th plus R pattern has made a full half turn clockwise

Hee hee,

Well it's a feature. After one complete turn you are ready for an oil change.

:) :)

Seriously though, it is just the small pop-in cap that is turning. I am told

you can pri it out will a small thin bladed screwdriver or such tool.

Then apply your favorite stickem to glue it in place for no more troubles.

Edit:

Just went out and did mine as it was turned about 90 deg. after about

2400 miles. I had better luck using 2 tools, a small thin screwdriver to

start with then the can opener/screwdriver tool on my Victorinox beside

it. It is a little ornery as there is a hatbrim like section about 1/4" below

the top of the insert which must be pried out which is about as ornery

going back in as coming out.

I used black RTV in a few places to hopefully anchor it.

Same here mine was straight when i left the dealer and by the time i got to home it had done a quater turn clock wise . Now with 800 miles on it is upside down.

Its the decal thats turnin' not the shifter . Its a little annoying but don't look at it eventually it will turn all the way around. ,hopefully? :-laf

As stated above, its the plastic centerpiece that is turning. Pry it out and dab some glue on it... . or use it as an oil-change-o-meter... since they seem to make a revolution every 3-5000 miles!

I just use my palm to rub the thing back in place. If you put a mild amount of pressure with a twisting action, it should move a little at a time.

Alright!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man thats what I like about the TDR, you guys are great!!!!. After reading all these threads on how and when to change the oil the shifter rotation thing make the most sense!! , who says you have to buy a BMW to have this feature. I have to tell you guys after the 27" pipewrench didn't work I was going for the torch to persuade it. So it looks like a blade screw driver church key,and some superglue are the ticket, thats right up my alley, you know us oil workers when we get our hands on tools .

As an old timer on TDR, there is a small group of subjects that come up over and over and over and over again. . . this is one of those subjects ;) LOL

Shift knob disc.

I popped my disc out and put some slices in it with a sharp knife. This was on the inside part of the disc that doesn't show. I then put a small drop of silicone on the inside ledge and reinstalled it.

I probably did this close to 2 years ago and it hasn't moved at all. The little slices create traction, like a small snow tire, give the disc grip on the inside of the knob.

Hope this helps. It works! Joe F. (Buffalo)

i popped my disc off too, but then i took a 15mm socket and removed the nut in there, then spun off the handle, and they are both gone [i don't even know where they are anymore] and now sits there a nice #2 billiard ball...

although my #2 ball is stting so the 2 is tilted about 90° CCW

Don't feel too bad about the spinning symbol, as my '87 F-250/Navijunk had transmission and tc shifters that actually came off in my hand. They were not threaded on, so I had to glue the whole knob on.

after 60K miles I don't know how many laps mine has done. I just kwit payin attention. Just as long as the shifter doesn't come off in my hand like my Ford Ranger did. . . .
