Gentlemen

Doing an oil change on the 05 tomorrow and I was thinking about removing the silencer ring, what do ya think?

*Whats the best way to get the little booger out?

*Are there any warranty concerns?

Comments?????????????

I removed mine the day after I brought it home. I used two pocket flatblade screwdrivers and carefully worked it out, took me about 5 min. Don't know about warranty issues, but I can't imagine it would void anything except maybe the turbo. I sure like the way it makes it sound though.

Not sure about warranty either though I don't know what the gripe would be between an aftermarket airbox and taking out the silencer. I took mine out and did'nt notice much more than a little more turbo noise. Two weeks later I put in an Airaid Quick Kit and actually did notice better pedal response. Not huge but better than stock or w/silencer out. Picked up the Airaid from a buddy with a wholsalers license for a little less than Ebay and no wait or shipping @ $250. 00

Is there any reason NOT to take it out? My truck is totally stock but I wouldn't mind if it played me a little tune on the turbo as I climb the mtn passes ;)

i took out the silencer and put in a afe torque tube, awesom!!!!! i read that it would give the big rig sound and they were right. the only downside would be that fuel mileage is probably going down due to my right foot keeping the turbo in its singing range.

Well it's out!!!!!

Not much difference, at least with the stock box and an AFE drop in but still better. Now the 99 with the AFE WOW

It's located on the inlet to the turbo where the air tube that comes down from the airfilter box hooks on. Take the tube off and you'll see the ring, kind of doghnut shaped, held in buy a pesky little snapring. Two very small flatblade screwdrivers work best to get it out.
