My 05 Dodge will not turn the tires while trying to brake torque. It starts cutting out around 2000 rpm and will not burn the tires off. Anyone have a fix for this.

Why are you trying to do a brake stand? My truck can brake stand it no sweat,, but I only did it because of your post... I just had to go out and see for myself...

sc872,

As you apply the throttle, let of the brake just a wee little bit - this will get the rear tires spinning. Then apply brake as needed to keep vehicle at a stand still and contine to mash throttle pedal to the floor. Works best when the truck is up to operating temp.

Now that I have told you the trick - If you have an automatic trans try not to do it, the cummins has so much torque that it can snap a tranmission input shaft in a heartbeat.

a cure would be a TST/EZ combo with a fully built trans and several hundred foot burnouts are not a problem. but seriously get some rev's built up and bump the brakes and the rear should let loose enough to start to spin em and let her eat.

I know how to brake stand and mine will NOT do it. TST on board.

I even had a guy from Daves Diesels go out on the road with me. It seems not all 48RE's are the same.

Don't feel bad, my 05 doesen't power brake either. . And yes, I've been a hot rodder for many many years and know exactly what I'm doin'. . Even my stock 99 powerstroke dually would powerbrake. .

My truck will not do it, I test drove a '05 at the Dodge "test drive after 5" and they let you take the truck through a road course, test braking acceleration and cornering, I tried it with that truck and it would not do it either.

Mine will not do it either, had the edge turned up too. I do know what I am doing also. I have only tried it 2 or 3 times and not going to do it anymore. Will wait until the transmission is built I don't need to brake anything this early in the game.

Its pretty hard to power out of the rear disk brakes. I have a line lock on mine. I did the route 66 burnout contest last year and won the amature class. I'll be running it again this year on sept 15. Anyone who wants to go watch or be in it should go.

Last year I had a set of new bfg at's that I ran all the way down to the steel belts.

That's what I was thinking it was... the rear brakes.

Also someone told me they had something changed in the ECM that D/C has in there to control fist gear torque. Never got any specifics on what settings this would be. Not sure if it's good info.

I'm going to do a test... . park the front tires into a low wall and see if I can break em loose.

Tires make a diff. I have the stock Michelin tires, and depending on the road surface, my truck will smoke them off without brakes at all from a stand still.

My 05' when it was stock would smoke em' like crazy. After I put the edge in i had to rotate the tires because the fronts were almost new and the rears had bout 25% or less tread left. And thats with those stock bfg tires.

This is a burnout!

Thought you guys might like to see this, it is a 03 HEMI 2500QC LB that I traded in on the CTD. Don't miss it, but this was a really fun day, truck was stock and had about 3000 miles on it. Never could get it to do that again for some reason :D

You can see the rear door handle through the smoke alittle :-laf

It only took me that long to figure out I should have bought a CTD, had to wait two years, but I got it now  Hence the reason for the burnout, best part was I traded the HEMI with thise tires on it, or what was left :)

While I can not speak 100% for 04. 5 and up, the 03-04 torque management (48RE) states:

Transmission Output Speed = 0 rpm then

Max Engine RPM is about 2100.

At around 2100, the truck starts to defuel. Torque management. Can't get above that number. As the velocity increases, or the transmission output speed increases, that 2100 limit is slowly lifted. But, there is always SOME torque management until about 33 mph. :{
