You'll notice that drag racers wet down the tires in the pit before doing a burnout also they usually have Line Locs in place. A line loc is a driver operated check valve that will keep the front brakes applied when doing the burn out so the vehicle doesn't move easily but the rear drivetrain is free to spin. You are fighting the driveline with dry tires and the rear brakes applied. I have seen people who have a water tank and electric pump with the sprayers on the rear tires to wet them down before a burnout.

Are you guys that are racing running stock tires and doing a burnout to heat the tires before you race?



I ask because I always wondered what the benefit would be to burnout on a street tire at the race track. If its a racing slick, that is a totally different tire then the street tires. Roasting a stock tire before a race will in fact work against you because the rubber compound is different and will act like grease after its hot. Maybe folks do this to 'clean' the tire before the race?







I was told that by an old racing and car builder guru, George Barris.

I also heard it from some of the tire manufacturers at the same shows.

AK Ram, great burnout. Like said above, just for the crowd. When you launch in 4hi there is no need to. Next time you line up next to a rice burner try the 4hi launch.

Why?

My 05' when it was stock would smoke em' like crazy. After I put the edge in i had to rotate the tires because the fronts were almost new and the rears had bout 25% or less tread left. And thats with those stock bfg tires.

Just a newbie trying to learn, but WHY? Why are you all trying to burn off your tires? Does this help the CTD in some way or is this simply for fun?

Well..... I am not a 3rd gen but am curious nonetheless, how well does a line-lock work on a vehicle with 4-weel ABS? I would really be interested in installing one in my '02, but am unsure as to whether or not it will play nice with the ABS?

Well I don't have room in the garage for extra tires... So the quicker these go out the quicker I will be able to get my 35's And at the end of sept. there is a 4wheel jamboree in indy so since i'll already be there I may as well pick em' up and save on shipping. That is why

As you apply the throttle, let of the brake just a wee little bit - this will get the rear tires spinning. Then apply brake as needed to keep vehicle at a stand still and contine to mash throttle pedal to the floor. Works best when the truck is up to operating temp.



Now that I have told you the trick - If you have an automatic trans try not to do it, the cummins has so much torque that it can snap a tranmission input shaft in a heartbeat.

Here is another way to smoke the tires. Do a rolling burn out. Drive it slow enough to keep it in first or second gear but which ever gear you are in have the rpms up and then nail it but make sure you are not in a curve you will lose it. You should be able to lite them up 60 or 70 feet easily.
