I have an 06 3500 CTD with 48re, it only has about 7500 Klicks on it. A number of times upon takeoff, it feels as if the clutch is slipping. It shudders as it is starting to move. I haven't had it long enough to nail down exactly when it happens, but it seems as if it is when first starting out after a shut down. It grabs my attention every time as it really feels as if something is slipping.

It also seems to have a shift pattern all over the map when doing city driving. You never know what gear it's going to hit next.

This is my fifth CTD, but only my second auto, (the 05 didn't last a year, as the headlights were so crappy after an 01 sport, I had to get rid of it. Also I wanted my long box back, and to get rid of the aluminum rims!) so I'm not real familer with the shifting. The shudder has me concerned though.

Any Thoughts???

Thanks.

Mine does it a little too. I think there is another thread here somewhere referring to the same thing. I notice it most under light acceleration after the truck is moving, not right when I step on it. It feels like three or four little shudders, then it's gone. I don't know what it is. I have about 6500 on my 06. I figure if it gets worse, I'll take it in. If not, I can live with it and not risk getting it "fixed" under warranty and having it come out worse than it is!

It isn't your transmission slipping , it is a driveline angle thing. Some owners are fixing the problem with shims under the carrier bearing. Your dealer should be able to refer to a TSB on this condition.

The cure is a 5/16 piece of shim/metal between the frame and the carrier bearing housing. To lower the drive shaft angle , I guess to simulate a light load,It did however end my problems including the vibration at 2k rpms. The TSB did basically the same thing in MM sizes. I found the info a year ago by searching "Launch shudder". If you had a cap or something this would not be a problem for you. I had a cap and never noticed the problem. Once I removed the cap I immediately felt the problem.

Thanks for the info everyone. I did a quick search as suggested for 'launch shudder' and am now reading the results. Seems strange that Dodge would put out a truck with the driveline improperly aligned. Guess it's better that than the transmission!

Thanks Again.
