My friend is going to buy an 06 4wd I told him of the problems with vibration down the freeway is this still an issue??

Don

Drove my '06 on an 800 mile round trip last weekend to the Gulf. Constantly ran 90-95mph on the way back and it was smooth smooth smooth.

Once while passing I looked at my g/f and said, "Doesn't feel like 105 does it?"

She freaked out and had no idea... thought we were going like 80. :) Only did that for a second though getting around some trucks, but let me say this is easily the smoothest riding truck I've ever owned. That includes the previous 3rd gen Ram's I had which were 1500's. This one just blows them out of the water. Those were pretty darn loud and shakey compared to my new one.

I delivered a tractor to Bonsall a couple of weeks ago. California freeways do have plenty of "bounce". Bounced my spare tire loose, bounced my GPS off the windshield, and bounced the grease cap off my trailer axle. Even at the maximum trailer-pulling speed of "55 mph  ". And if you really want to have fun, pull a big gooseneck loaded down with 6 tractors on the 210 in LA/Pasadena at 4 p. m. on a weekday  .

It sure is pretty though if you look past all the people  . Whoever came up with that 55 mph law for trailers should be hung.

I don't think any of the speed limits should be so low with how safe newer vehicles are at greater speeds.

Here is my take on the 55 for trailers. The Sign in CA says "Trucks and Autos with trailers 55. "

Our pickups are not Autos, or we would have an auto registration from the DMV. We are not Trucks or we would have to stop at the Weight station. We are driving Pickups with trailers, doesn't say anything about that on the sign. Not sure if it would hold up in court but sure would give it a try if I was ticketed for speeding.

I was thinking the same thing as I drove at 70+ (with my radar detector). "Well officer, I'm just a dumb Arizona boy and I didn't see where it said PICK-UP TRUCKS on that sign sir. " and then I could wait for the "Sign here. It's not an admission of guilt... . just a promise to appear in court. "

I did notice some different signs on I-8 east of SD that clarified by saying "all vehicles with trailers" instead of the normal "autos" and "trucks". That's the first time I've seen those. I think it was just before you start climbing up the mountain eastbound into InKoPah. I drove to Sacramento a few weeks before . Ever try to drive 1,800 miles at 55 MPH? Especially between Palm Springs and Blythe or between LA and Sacramento. Holy smokes! I couldn't wait to cross back into AZ so I could stop watching my rear-view mirror for the red and blue revenue collection lights. Man, I love California and vacation there every year, but I hate that stupid speed limit.

Maybe I should write a letter to the Governator and get him to fix this.

LOL Arnold

Like mr terminator wants a 9k lbs truck hauling a 14klb trailer doing 80 mph passing a hyundai accent. They keep it at 55 to reduce danger to the fuel conservers. Plus the amount of AZ diesel you would spit out in CA on the first fuel run would choke out the epa nazzis. I think 55 is a great idea for campers. I rarely tow my boat over 55 unless its really late like 11pm with no traffic. During the daytime its unbearable to try and drive safely with all the morons on the road zipping in and out of lanes. You are much safer doing the 55. Sure it may tack 3 more hours on your drive but you are more likely to arrive alive. :-{} Lets play nice with the foreign rice burners.

Hi guys... signed up yesterday!

1800 miles on ma' new 06, no vibration at any speed.

On the California Oo. : Heard a dull knocking noise aft from time to time, seemed to be bounce related. Turns out the fold down cargo deck, now plastic, will co-bounce at times if you don't attach the cheesy little restraint or have it loaded with gear.

Nice board you guys have here... ... .

lostronin,

Welcome to the board, and congrats on the new truck.

After I installed the Snug Top shell, the freeway expansion joints seem to have gone away. This truck now rides smoother than my 1998 1500 4x4!

I'm still trying to find out if anyone knows whether there was any change to the '06 models that would have eliminated the 03-05 70 mph vibration/drone issue. Anyone know?
