My truck misses under light acceleration and seems to be idling a little on the rough side. At times it runs just fine. When it starts acting up I just stomp on the accelerator -- it will blow out some black/blue smoke from the exhaust and run fine for a short time. This just started today. I have just under a half tank of fuel. I'm thinking of adding some 2 stroke oil to the fuel (as done in TDR issue 62 pg. 30 or trying some other additive to hopefully lube the FCA or clean an injector. What are your ideas. I just turned over 40,000 miles. My local auto parts store sells two additives made by Power Service, Diesel Kleen (silver bottle) and Diesel Supplement (white bottle). Are either of these worth a try or should I do the 2 stroke oil treatment? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I have not lifted the hood to conduct any tests or to drain or change the fuel filter because we have wind chills of 3 degrees.

Sounds like cold combustion temps to me. When my trucks are cold (I do not use grid heaters), they will sputter and miss until up to operating temp or after sitting idling for an excessive amount of time when cold. They will smoke also. It hink this is true for just about any diesel.

I would not add anything to the fuel,it will not help the problem. Check the fuel filter first, then check fuel pressure. Sounds like electrical problem, have your truck scanned/scoped for problems first.

I took it to my favorite Dodge Dealer. #3 injector was leaking. It's all fixed and idling and running fine. Thanks for input. I will post another thread in appropriate area to find recommendation regarding fuel additives for cleaning and lube. Thanks again.
