Has anyone taken the stock AAM open differential (rear) out and put in the limited slip (helical) differential? If so, do you have part numbers and where you purchased the new diff from? The only option my truck didnt have when i was searching for it was this, so i'd like to solve the one wheel wonder problem. Thanks!

I am in the same boat as you. I'm just not sure that limited slip is what is cracked up to be. I have been waiting for ARB to come out with an air locker for the AAM . They are working on it. Well let's see if you get some responses.

$605 thru Randy's for the Yukon model...

I am thinking a junk yard might be a good place to start looking.

AAM makes the helical TracRite with an electronic locker, talk about the best of both worlds!

After some more digging, i found the part # for the AAM TracRite Helical Differential 11. 5 (#74030797), but can not locate a supplier of the differential.

Around and around i go.

Thanks p-Bar, but I called all the distributors in Ohio and Michigan. No one seems to carry AAM differentials, even though they are listed on the AAM website..... Still going around and around!

I think I got it...

Hey THorn!

After some more digging, i found the part # for the AAM TracRite Helical Differential 11. 5 (#74030797), but can not locate a supplier of the differential.

I did some checking for you, and found this company:

Asheville Power Train, Inc.

1 Wells Drive

Asheville, NC 28806

828-258-3277

Call and talk to J. R. I just got off the phone with him, and AAM has a couple of these units on the shelf that can be shipped out with 2 - 3 day delivery. Shipped to your door price would be right at $600 give or take a little for shipping.

Hope this helps! --Eric

Why do yhou want this type of differential? I have one and, if working correctly, is is useless if you are stopped with one wheel in green grass or other slipery surface and the other on dry surface. As with ordinary differentials the whell on the slipery surface just spins! My dealer says that is the way it works.

For the "limit slip" function to work both wheels must be turning. In all of my off road stuff I need the limit slip feature when starting.

Peter.

I have been debating for a few weeks now about getting the helical limited slip from AAM (thanks for the info guys!). Anyone heard news on when an air locker is going to be available for the 11. 5 AAM? From my past experience thats the way to go, for daily driveability and traction on demand...
