So what is the bottom line on this feature for '06? Do I ask the dealer to "enable the high idle feature"? The salesman is wanting to charge for this but I don't think this is right. Am I correct? TIA, Tom.

Yes, the dealer can do this, and they shouldn't charge for it. You should show them in the owner's manual that this is a feature that the dealer can enable. If they won't do it, find another dealer.

Explain what you are talking about. High Idle because It a automatic????? :(

KennethS the feature is for faster engine warm-up and I specified automatic because the manual transmisions require a $299 kit to make it work. It's my understanding that this feature along with a jake-brake allows the engine to warm up much faster. Tom.

My new truck should be here In a couple of weeks I hope

They said 5 weeks but I bet 8 weeksor longer. It a 4 door short bed with the Laramie pkg and leather seats and Maroon In color full dress and Diesel automatic 2 wheel drive. trailer toe pkg also. I did not want the sunroof. about everything else. They are putting a hood scoop on It as my truck now has. At least my wife can drive this truck. This should be my last toy I hope. :-laf

Hay, I started that thread in late october :)

I will know later this week, but it looks like the switch for the manual can be had from cummins for around $60. 00 with the wire. Someone else posted the numbers today so I ordered them. I will let you guys know.

What this does is raise your idle to 1000-1500 RPM if you want while your sitting somewhere. I think you turn the cruse on and press set while sitting still, and the idle will go up to 1000. Then when you press resume it will go higher.

I do set and idle my truck more then I would like. And hearing about a couple guys having injector problems and the dealer says "you let your engine idle too much" it sounds like an option I want. Some mornings I will sit for 10-15 minutes with the heat on waiting for the train. Starting this week I have to sit and wait for my Daughter at track practice for 1 hour 2X per week. Its still heater weather up here in PA

Hi folks,

What's this "switch" you guys are talking about? I have an 04. 5 with a 6-spd and a Jake but without cruise. Can I get any kind of high idle control? Mine will ramp up by itself in VERY COLD (below 20*F) weather if it feels like it. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Even a simple high idle control would be

Thanks,

Vic
