06 Boosts lvls

The spring in the wastegate is set to 22psi on the turbo. If your wastegate solenoid sticks open that is all the boost you will see. A set of vise grips on the small hose to the wastegate will let you know if it is stuck open. I found this out when I did the turbo swap on my '03. My old wastegate was better it held at 26psi.

My wastegate will hold at 27ish. I pinched off the hose and saw the increase to 36-38ish. But what does that tell me? I guess my Smarty isnt turning off the wastegate but I dont really want to drive a round with a set of vice grips hanging from the turbo. I was hoping the Boost fooler would remedy this, but the more I read, the less likely that sounds. Any issue with pulling the hose and capping it off?

i can hit 40 psi max on stock turbo with banks tunner turned all the way up and at WOT.

Thats about what mine holds, 26 psi with the boost reference line full open. The 36-38 psi is about right with the line plugged. I can easily hit 45-50 psi but I have a lot of fuel being added with the Smarty.



I have been driving around for 2 years with vice grips on mine because my controller quit and I am cheap. LOL. I need to fix that one of these days.



The boost fooler will remedy that, ran a Quad BF in conjunctin with the Smarty for a long time and boost would max around 40-42 psi when the WG controller was working. Wiht the boost reference line plugged one has be cognizant of the boost levels and the right foot action so adding a BF is a good way to mitigate that.

Wastegate controllers are expensive. Buy me a plug and you can have the one off my turbo. You could shorten the rod on the wastegate or get a stronger actuator to increase boost levels and still have a functioning wastegate. I have a boost elbow on my turbo but it seems inconsistent on when/if the wastegate opens. Electronic wastegate good idea but they have a finite lifespan.

A boost fooler should do just what you want, thats what they are designed to do.
