'06 Cummins opinions

My brother is looking at buying a new '06 cummins megacab dually and was wondering what your opinions of the new HO motors are. The truck has a 6 speed transmission. I have an identicle post in other forum about the truck itself, any input, good or bad, is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your answers.

I have had a 12V ('97) and a HPCR ('04) motor in my two dodges. I really like the new motors. Quieter and much more powerful. I tow about 14,000 with it. It tows very well stock.



On a side note, one of the things that kept me away from the Mega Cab dually is that the Mega Cab dually has about 1700# less Gross Vehicle Weight Rating than the Quad cab. That's 1700# less payload or pin weight. For me, that just wouldn't do it. For him, it may work. Just some infomration to help make a decision.

Thats interesting. He is going to use it as a daily driver/ backup to his 91 350 welding truck. I got the same response about in the other forum. Sounds like were gonna have to do some investigating, thanks fo the reply

No complaints about the 06 yet. I've got some mods to make but thus far I say it's going to be a great platform.

Only 1500 miles on the 06 so far. I still can't get adjusted to the lack of noise! If it gets better with miles it will be a very strong truck. Mileage unloaded is similar to the 2000 SO with 4. 10s. Power is many steps above which probably is the reason loaded mileage is 15-20% less so far.

I was really thinking of trading my 98 on one until the 98's transmission went south. Now with the DTT the 98 is sounding beautiful again! I still dream of an 06 with a DTT. My left foot is "lazy"!

I have 16,456 miles on one '06 and 5,671 miles on the other. I love them both. Great towing power, smooth running, and quiet. BTW my Megacab has alot nicer ride than the Quadcab.

I love my 06... I have the auto transmission and manual differential... . but the engine has good power (325/610) is fairly quiet in the cab but if you stomp it the turbo will whine and you will hear the big Cummins pulling. My dealership was all over trying to get me to take a truck for an overnight drive and test..... have him see if he can get an extended ride...
