my '06 auto is very hard to get out of park, it hangs up and almost feels like I am about to break something, it almost like I am always on a steep hill with a bunch of pressure on the park pin, however I don't think its coming from the trans itself but rather something in the shifter the part that when you depress the brake pedal allows the shifter to move, anyone else seen this and is there an easy fix??

yea me too. dealer adjusted cable 2 times and 20K latter the replaced the valve body in the trany. weak/soft metal wears a grove making it hard to get out of grove. thats what the tech said. .

I removed the little magnetic switch and that didn't fix it. I guess it must be the valve body, does it hurt anything to keep driving it like this?? good lord everytime an oil change roles around there is something else to fix, my truck has offically reached POS status.

Mine got stuck in park in a fuel lane 1500 mile's from home it sucked needed a tow for truck and trailer and a hotel for two days fix it ASAP IMOP Randy

A little off topic, but I always go to neutrul first on any auto trany I drive, then set the parking brake, then go to Park to keep the pressure off of the Park pin, its a good habit to get into.

I have Manual's on both of my CTD's so I can't compare, but if I did, that would be my SOP. :)

I realize that it is not the issue, as I stated, it was off topic, just thought I would offer some good advise for Automatic drivers. :)

so back to the question, does it hurt to keep driving the truck with this issue???

The only thing it will hurt is your pocket book when it jams and you need a tow truck, or, you break the shifter or cable AND need a tow. Its the detent flange jamming the ball into the VB that causes the hang, just a mechanical problem.

O no:eek:

I have another thing to worry about breaking soon on my truck.

This 06 dodge is becoming an expensive hobby to keep on the road.

aint that the truth, everytime I have to change the oil there is something else to fix, last go around it was front u joints, in between that and this oil change it was all rear u joints and carrier bearing, now the trans is f'd up, my truck is officially a POS, I have spent 5k in repairs in the last year keeping it on the road, and I am just now at 75k!!!!!

It is inside the trans,in previous years it was available by itself. We call it a rooster comb due to it's likeness.

Its immersed in ATF, lubing doesn't help. Its wear problem on the VB casting that is the issue. Can't stop that with lube, all you can do is sleeve the bore or toss the casting.

so the fix is to have a valve body on hand in the shop?
Are the new VB. improved or will this be a ongoing failure on these trucks forever?

Look at my 1st or 2nd post, there is a link to a kit to fix the problem so you don't have to toss the VB.

I think its on of those 53 block problems. Just a bad casting in certain cases. Not all VB's exhibit the same problem. No guarantee a different VB will not have the same problem.

Since the 48RE is out of production fixing the old parts is going to be a good route to consider.

I haven't had that great of luck with trans shops, infact I don't know of a local one I would trust to touch my transmission, automatics have been around forever and its shocking how terrible of work that some shops do on them, with that said, is the valve body something a novice mechanic can tackle or is it better left to a professional, and also would it be wise to put an upgraded valve body in an otherwise stock trans??
