I just bought an 06 dodge 2500 diesel, the dealer where i bought it at had me take it to an RV shop to have a 5 th wheel hitch put in it, the shop welded the hitch to the frame, from what i hear that is a no no, the dealer where i bought it says they have no idea what i am talking about, can any body tell me whats up with this ?????? can you or cant you.

Thanks

Jerry

??

There is suppose to be a TSB on how the welding is to be done, but I haven't seen it. On my 04 the Reese was welded and I always worried about it, as with you, the dealer didn't have a clue.

On my 06, I went with a B&W hitch. A little more pricey, but bolts to the frame using existing holes. Looks great, rated at 18K, and now I can tow goose necks or 5th wheels. A real nice hitch.

It is recommended to be bolted. Welding is OK, if done correctly. Look at the welds, do they have evenly spaced rings?? Are they uniform in width, and height?? Are there any holes where they burned through?? Do they look like the factory welds on other frame components like cross members?? If you answer yes to any of the above except for the last one, you may have a problem. If you have any doubt, DO NOT tow anything with it until you have a certified welder look at it and have it corrected.
