I have a factory (dealer) installed Jake brake. Is it adjustable at all as far as back pressure. Mine works but not as strong as I expected. I did not know if there was an adjustment on the rod that actuates the flapper. If so maybe the monkey at the dealer just threw the thing in there.

Also can I idle my truck up with the cruise for faster warm ups?

The rpm needs to be up about 2500rpm to have much retarding power, and of coarse the lower gears wii help

Screwing with it around town the rpms never get that hi so I guess when theres some weight on it and its actually pushing it down a hill it becomes more effective.

The question still stands. Is there any adjustment? Thanks guys.

By the way this is a great site. This is the first site that has really inspired me to get involved. Real information actually comes from it!

I agree that it seems a little on the weak side sometimes. I don't think it was designed to be much help on an empty truck running a flat road. I drive the mountains a bunch and when I am coming down, even with just a couple snowmobiles behind me, I notice a big difference between how much I see brake lights in front of me and how much I am using my own service brakes. This is at 30-35 mph and certainly not in its strongest rpm range. With a big load (14k lbs) and a decent grade (5 miles at 6%) at highway speeds (60mph limit) It really makes a big difference. I think that is more what it was intended for and it shows when operated that way.

You can use it with the high idle feature as well. First you have to have the high idle feature enabled so you can control it with the cruise buttons. The initial setting on the high idle is 1100 rpm. You can engage the brake at this rpm for warm up. I found though, if you try to increase the rpm above 1100 the brake will shut off.

Yep, I would call ahead though. My semi-rural dealer didn't initially have the right programming in his diagnostic tool. They should know if they have the latest update or not. Once hooked up it is just a couple pushes of a button away.
