Hi, this is my first post here. I purchased new 06 3500 qcab 4X4 last friday. Sold my 03 F250 6. 0 on Monday. I am very satisfied. But, I have one concern.

The glow plug indicator does ever light up. Even during the 3 second "bulb check" when all other warning lights come on as soon as the ignition is turned on. The only reason I know it is there is that I have seen a diagram in the manual.

Called dealer service dept. Tech. said that because temps have been in the 90s the light will not come on.

The manual says different.

Can anyone with an 06 check on their truck and let me know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

David G

Welcome back from the dark side :-laf JK I just had to do headgaskets on a 6. 0 and al I can say is YOU MADE A WISE CHOICE.

Well the wait to start light should at least flash I imagine, but maybe I am wrong. And before anyone here starts beatin on ya cummins dont have glowplugs just an air grid heater.

From what Ive heard here, Dodge disabled the wait to start test on the 06's, so you probably won't see it till fall. BTW, the CTD does not have glow plugs. It has an air intake grid heater. Welcome to the modern diesel.

GreerD,

I just walked outside to check to see if the grid heater light would come on in my 06. Mine did, but it is between 50-60* here and it has not been started for 24 hours. I have noticed that if it is really warm that the indicator does not always show up when the key is turned to the on position when engine is cold.

IMHO, I wouldn't worry about it. Just enjoy your new ride!!! :p

crabman :)

PS

If you want to download the factory service manual, go HERE. You should have DSL or Cable as the file is 480 MB :--)

06 owner here also, had it a month and a half and have never seen the Grid heater light either.

Your indicator light sounds just fine. I'm 30 miles outside Tucson, AZ, where it's fairly warm, and my light in my '06 never comes on, even during light check, in the summer. It will come on when it gets colder, though. Welcome to the site, and to Dodge trucks!!!

Glow Plugs

Glow plugs, what are they? :-laf You should see all the truck's with them glow plugs back home in the winter time outside the bar that won't start for S*^*... Couple of times I had to come to the rescue of poor stranded Cowgirls and warm them up. (LOL) ;)

When following the link, you get to the body builder page, no service manual. There are various wiring diagrams for different models. Where's the service manual?

It is based on the temp outside. Only comes on if it is a certain temp. Soeey i dont know what that temp is. Good Luck w\ your new truck

Welcome to TDR.
It is covered in your Owners Manual, but it will not come on until outside temp get below 66 degrees. It varies some because it 66 degree on the ECM temp module which may differ from your overhead temp gauge.

Haven't see my 05 light up or heard the heater since June... . I won't see it again until October if 66 is the temp for the 05's and this weather stays the way it is in Texas!!!

Bulb Check on an '06 is done by pressing and holding the trip button and turning the key to the on position. Then release the trip button.
