Today I got a flash up date on my 06 megacab. The flash is for hard start and smoke on start up. The service advisor said the update just came out.

Just thought those of you with 06s would like to know.

Did it affect MPG? Dodge has been known for flashes that kill mpg :(

When they reflash the ECM they are required to installed a sticker under your hood which they wrote the Flash number on. What is that number?

What is the build date of you 06?

The reason I ask is my build date is 12/10. It might or might not have this flash already done. If its not done I want to know if it killed MPG before I get it done.

My brother who works as a dc line tech is taking one of our 06 in this morning for the new flash. He looked it up on dealer connect last night and it is very new. Will post results.

Is their a TSB for this? I know sometimes my 06 starts easy and quick and other times it takes longer to start and I have noticed smoke at start up although not a lot.

I think my mpg did drop about . 5 but it's too soon to tell I haven't really drivin the truck enough to tell. The build date on my truck is 9/05. Idid not see where they wrote anything on a sticker but my paperwork says this

if i remember right my build date was on the engine on driver side... ... will wait for answers on what flash affects in addition to startup and smoke before I go asking for it... . but most shops will automatically flash everything anytime you take it in for warranty work..... so might not have a choice unless I never have a warranty issue... LOL

I don't even have mine yet, but I don't think they throw the computer on during PDI so it would only get done if I bring it up.

I really would like to see if I could get them to enable the high idle for me. Problem is it has a 6 speed but I don't want to drop the bucks on the required clutch switch ( I hear its $200. 00?).

I would tap into the parking brake switch so you had to have the parking brake on for high idle to work. Sounds safe to me.

My 06 doesn't seem any different than my 03. Every nowand again it may start a little harder, but nothing major. And, nothing repeatable. Deffinetly different from my 93 and 02, which fired right up. Must have something to do with all the electronics.

Yes there is a TSB, said he would print it off today and bring it by the shop tonight.

That tsb also changes shifting,Can't say how much I haven't done one yet. The language makes it sound like the extended crank time repair is for sticks in cold weather. Improved auto shifting and enhanced battery charging along with the engine fan being turned on if the coolant temp sensor should fail. The tsb# is 18-003-06

Yup my 06 starts hard every so often and it seems like more of late. I'll be eager to hear what everyone has to say after they get it and I'll be going in to have it done. I hate a truck that won't start. Its so bad sometimes I've cranked it for 10seconds or more and let off the key and hit it again before it will start.

If your manual trans truck does not start within about 2-3 seconds, stop cranking and then crank again. It will usually fire right up on the second try. I understand the flash ignores the bounce of the crank sensor and then allows the truck to start even if the PCM is not happy with the cam/crank sync. If you keep cranking it will eventually (10-30 seconds) ignore one sensor and start based on the remaining sensor.

My 06 starts fine so far - although I've noticed that it stumbles for maybe 1-2 seconds then smooths out just fine... .

Bob4X4, today I called my dealer service advisor and he described the reflash just like you did but he told me the tsb # is 18-003-06. Is he wrong? I'm getting mine done on Saturday and I just want to make sure its documented correctly. Thanks

Today I took my other 06 in to get it flashed. The technician said it already had the updates in it, so apparrently they already fixed the newer 06s.

M. Murray, what is your Date of MFR? Mine is 11-05 as taken from D/S door sticker. I would say my truck is pretty new. It shifts good, starts right up in cold weather, and the battery is charging just fine. I don't want them trying to fix something that aint broke. - Augie
