Stoped by the dealer today. I had some time to kill. was looking for some info on the 6. 7,was talking to the owner/salesman I bought my truck from and mentiond to him about enableing the cruise/fast idle. He took me to the shop to talk to the service writer and he claimed 1 hour and they get $90. 00 bucks an hour. I feel like they want to bend me over with out greese! I bought this truck from this dealer because I live in town. I was hoping that they would take care of me for that reason and because I was a past customer. I really don't think it would take them that long but i'm not sure!

That is a dealer programable feature and takes about 4-5 minutes to do with the Startscan. I would tell them they are nuts. Heck, anyone with a Bully Dog Triple Dog can do it for you too. Some dealers . . . . .

Mine did it for free

i was in my dealer today to have the truck looked at. ive been getting bad milage (13mpg) and the wanted to reflash to see if that would help. asked them about the high idle deal and they told me its for automatics only. is that true or are they mistaked? ive been frustrated by this dealer before because it takes half a day to get anything done but they seem to be looking out for the customer. during there attempt they recalibrated my speedo to get as close to my 35" tires as possible. they didnt charge me for that and werent gonna charge to the high ilde either.

sorry bout getting off topic but figured the net could use a little positive feed back from a dealer.

high idle

They can enable the high idle on a 6 speed but you have to install a clutch switch. Can't remember the details its like $100 or so. Do a search and you'll find the info. Just get the Smarty, thats what I did. Simple addition by subtraction. High idle: $90 or so at dealer. More horsepower, high idle, and NOT going to the dealer:pRICELESS :) On a cold morning waiting for the truck to warm up its awesome. my . 02

For about $12. 00 worth of parts you can forget the clutch switch and ground the #22 terminal to the ECM. There are two plugs on the drivers side of your motor. On the rear 50 pin plug, remove it with a 4mm allen driver. Take a paper clip and push the red weather cap out on the #22 pin. 3rd row down, 2nd from the left. Take the repair pin, add enough wire to run to a good ground then push it into the #22 terminal. I used one of the ECM mounting bolts. Re install the 50 pin plug then have the idle up feature enabled. You can find the repair pin at any Cummins dealer. I'll try to find the part # and some pics. If you've ever had your truck serviced or repaired at a dealer, and get along with the tec's, go right to them. Don't even talk to the service writer. It seems like they get paid to tell you ,"NO". So be a man... Sneak in the back if you have to. Whats the worst that can happen? They ask you to leave? Chances are that the tec will be more than happy to hook you up at the end of the shift... while no ones looking. It only took my tec about 3 min's and a 12 pack of his favorite beverage. Ice cold is a huge plus. :-laf

by doing a search on this, it looks like this is ok for the 2005 trucks as well, can anyone confirm the grounding of pin 22 on the ecm for the 05

thanks brandon

The high idle feature is under "Dealer Prep" on the starscan. Did the dealer ask you if you wanted it enabled when you bought the truck? Chance are no. So if they didn't ask you it's there problem, enable it now.

If that don't work tell them it takes forever for your truck to warm up and you want them to fix it.

If that don't work tell them you know about the injectors fouling up because of low combustion temperatures and you don't want any warrany claims.

If that don't work then tell them when you have injector problems don't void your warranty for low idle times, after all you asked for the high idle feature.

Oh make sure other people hear you ask or get a service write up that the dealership did not enable the high idle feature when you bought the truck.

Heads up, when you get your truck reflashed the tech has to reenable the features. The features go back to default settings. Also if you get your truck reflashed for any reason they should enable your features for nothing. You could always claim the features were enabled before the reflash and you want them turned on again.

grounded pin22 and it worked, hi idle has been turned on for year, just never got around to figuringout why it did not work the stick and electric seat was a little easier to set up on the 12er though

on the repair pin I used cummins number 3824810 I had a lot of them left over, so that number works as well as the other
