06 interior lights

When I open the door of my truck the interior lights go out in 7 seconds ( not fade out just go off )

Even when I turn them on manually they have gone out.

Any thoughts would be appreciated ( please do not make me regret saying "any" )

Common '06 problem. Here is the cure...

Unhook the wire that I show in the post, much easier than unhooking both batteries.

I looked at the new f150 trucks the other day and if I did switch I would lose all the great help that I have found on this site.

I must have missed that post last year, as I keep telling people with this problem they have to remove the battery grounds in order to reset the body control module, but your way is MUCH easier!!! Of course, it's SUPER important not to short out that PDM wire to ground....I'd imagine taht large a wire would arc out with some PRETTY lights, but do some pretty good damage in the meantime!!

It sparked a little since I did not unplug the light under the hood but everything seems to work just like it used to.

It's a real pain when the dome lights start acting up while trying to do something that takes longer than five seconds, like digging for something in the center console or trying to find that last plastic bag full of groceries that spilled an onion out under the rear seat....

I put the truck up for the winter now and remove the batteries so it doesn't bother anymore.

When I ran it year round I would have to reboot it once or twice per year.

I ordered this truck just before Christmas 2005 & picked it up January 22, 2006 it has 113k miles on it & this is the first time that I had to do that.

Besides removing the batteries what else do you to the truck for winter storage? Do you treat the fuel, fill the tank or leave it near empty?

My wife of 40 years thinks she needs a sports car, and who am I to argue since I will drive it or her Grand Cherokee, so the truck might spend some time in storage during the year and I wondered what others do to to properly store vehicles.

You will get differing opinions on storage prep.

My Stepfather used to drive the stuff into one of our garages and shut the key off. Period. Never had an issue that I witnessed by doing so. But they usually were driven a bit each year.

I do fill the tank, remove the batteries and starting two years ago I put about 100 dryer sheets under the hood and in the interior.
Three years ago I had a squirrel take up residence between the hood and the hood liner. He didn't chew anything, just stored a gazillion acorns in there. A few rattle out on occasion even now when you open the hood. Nothing worse than losing track of one's nuts. Plus he hates the smell of dryer sheets......

Once I fill it with summer fuel I am committed, can't dig it out mid-winter without having to deal with the fuel.

It sits in storage from November until April, no adverse issues other than the squirrel.

I do change the oil, the oil filter and fuel filter after digging it out in the spring. Check for surprises in the air breather as well.

I don't block up the axles, apply a coat of wax or smear any cosmoline on it. Being in a cold climate makes a difference in what I can get away with for sure.

Not sure yet if it would ever be stored that long but it is good to know that some people just park and walk away with no adverse effects.
