Anyone know where this came from?

I've been trying to adjust the brightness on my NAV down after dark and it seems like the only way to do it is to go through the menus on the screen, put it in the manual mode and move it down. Trouble with that is next morning the screen is nearly blacked out due to the low setting and I can't see the menus to adjust it back up.

In the automatic mode, nothing seems to change - day or night. Am I missing something or is the auto mode broke?

Thanks for any comments.

To dim the NAV display for nighttime driving you need to use the dash light dimmer. Its the rotary switch just to the right of the headlight switch. It has a detent in the upper position that places the NAV in full brightness. Great for daytime driving.

Don't feel bad I went through the same exercise triing to figure out how to adjust the NAV brightness.

I set mine on automatic. Full brightness during daylight hours and dims when the headlights are turned on. Like you, I could not get it right in the beginning. When I set the clock at the time change I drug out the manual and gave it another try, it started working correctly with the headlights when set on automatic. You can then dim it down further with the rotary dimmer if necessary.

I also finally took the time to learn the procedure for trip planning too. Real interesting all the stuff this unit is capable of.

What do you mean when you say "headlights set on automatic"? I have an 06 and their is no automatic setting. Or at least I don't think there is. Perhaps I'm about to learn something as well about how the headlights operate.

I think what he meant was when the NAV brightness is set to automatic in the menus AND the dimmer wheel is backed off to the detent, the brightness changes automatically to bright with the headlight switch to off and dim with the headlights on.

I own an 05 Jeep with the same equipment... . my system has an automatic position that controls all the lights..... low beam, high beam, day, night, driving lights and inside dimming..... I set it at automatic when I took delivery 12K miles ago and have never touched it..... it also has automatic wipers... . did the same with them... the only time I touch this control is in a car wash... ... these systems are light years ahead of the old systems of 5 years ago..... the wipers are timed so well that you don't have to touch them... as you get more rain they speed up... . its got to be the sensor behind the rear view mirror.....
