06 2500 4wd automatic with 34k started fine. Drove to have smog check (Calif.) and now the starter will not engage. No click but all other electrical operates normal. Ideas?

I know my range sensor doesnt allways register when I put it in park and I have to wiggle the shifter a little, then its fine

There is a small yellow wire going to the starter, it rubs on the bracket just above the starter, wire inside rubs thru.

My 07.5 had the same negative response, key in the start position, console lights up normal all systems light up except the Transmission selector indicator is blank and "ck gages" light on.Scan tool does not communicate with ECM.Bad news was a failed ECM at the tune of roughly $2,500. Dealer installed.
Hope this helps,Frank

range selector not indicating

The comment about the range selector not always working reminded me of a problem I had with my 06 some time ago, although it has also been some time since I have seen 34K, now being about 105K. My range selector also began to not indicate a setting, even though I could feel the notches and knew the gear I should be in, including not indicating "D" sometimes. As you found, usually wiggling the selector/shifter would solve the indicator problem. Mine too would not start--if the range did not indicate either Park or Neutral. Getting the selector indicator properly aligned allowed for correct functioning of the neutral safety switch and was the key to solving the problem with not starting. I don't remember if I also replaced the neutral safety switch at that time or not.
