Ok, I have been searching for awhile, and I am a little cloudy as to what my problem is. I have an 06 3500 with 158k miles on the clock. I use the truck to pull anywhere from 6k to 14k daily. So for the problems.
The truck has an incredible amount of timing rattle at light throttle under cruising conditons. As I increase the throttle pressure a little, the rattle transforms into more of a knock. I have replaced the FCA, fuel filter, and I run a Smarty. The symptoms persist at both stock, and on Catcher 3 and 5. When I am pulling heavier, a constant stream of black smoke seems to accompany the louder knock.
Additionally, the fuel mileage is fairly low compared to my 06 2500. I am seeing around 11mpg pulling 2500lbs at or below 70, and when I am at 8k+, I am only seeing 7-8mpg. There was at one time a code relating to the fuel system, but it hasnt returned, there is a code relating to the fan circuit as well.
Finally, on SW5, aftermarket turbo/stock injectors, the boost gauge will peg 24-25psi, and that is it. EGTs will run way over 1500* if I don't watch it.
SOOO, Sorry this is so long, I'm just trying to get this truck like new, or close anyway.
